If they actually want a program that people actually want to watch, they'll need a guy like Bruce Pearl.

I'm guessing most of the problems are not his fault.

I agree that after 4 years and your most wins is 12 and your in a state loaded with talent.

I don't know if Bruce Pearl is the answer, but get anyone that can recruit and could be back on the map quickly.

Let him go for 1 more year, but tell him he is out. Hire a new coach and have that guy ready.

Normally, I would say it just doesnt matter, a new coach cant save this program alone, but a brand new facility and some other bonuses for NEW players is a great recruiting tools to use!

Once again, its just a tool! You still need the guy who gets it done.

The savior is down in memphis....Josh Pasnor....best recruiter in America! If you could pull him to DePaul...that means something, because it also means that you have agreed to let him GET guys....no matter how he does it!

It's sad that you have to ask this question, and that the question is a totally fair one. "Why would you leave Memphis to coach Big East basketball in the city of Chicago" should be self-evident. Even though it isn't, the DePaul program arguably has a higher ceiling than Memphis, if they'd be allowed to try.

The Big East kind of sucks now.

I was under the impression that Big East basketball still had some cachet, despite the whole Catholic/non-Catholic football schism and all the other rounds of musical chairs. I know it's definitely not what it used to be.

Still, it's crazy that DePaul has fostered this kind of dumpster fire. It's one thing if you want to de-emphasize college athletics and get away from that muck. If they really wanted to do that, I'd respect that. But they seem to want to do things their own rinky-dink way and have the government build them a state-of-the-art new arena. That, I can't get behind.

Just shut the program down....U of Miami did from 1970 until 1985! Why not?

I guess I did overstate that a little. They seem to be settling into a mode of being the best mid major conference in America rather than a big conference. They are really hoping that Creighton and Butler help sell the conference. That should tell you something.

I thought he had The Miracle In Manhattan.

When I was reading the recap, that's what they said from ESPN, that it was Purnell's first win at DePaul in Big East tournament.

Would you still put the Big East ahead of the American Athletic Conference (which sounds like a stand-in in a bad scripted drama about college sports) as far as basketball goes? I mean, other than UConn, Louisville, and Memphis, there's not much there, is there?
