Interim head coach Bill Cubit might be the least of the university's problems at this point. Illinois AD Mike Thomas should be fired. Former AD Ron Guenther should be appointed to take over on an interim basis while the university conducts a national search for a new AD. And the new AD should hire the next head football coach.

I'm not much of a betting man these days but, as documented here, I do have a keen sense of how an Illini football team will perform in particular games.

I'd pound the Illini -3.5 today at home.

I do not think that the upcoming Nebraska game is winnable but this is the most vulnerable the Cornhuskers have been since the Bill Callahan years. If the Illini had some of their better receivers healthy, like the ones who can actually catch and hold on to footballs, I might be inclined to believe they could pull the upset. 45-28 Nebraska.

Moral victories are for losers but it was nice to see them be in a road game against a quality opponent. Hopefully a few guys get healthy with the bye week. Wisconsin is beatable.
