I know it all sounds good, but does he care about Illini Sports? Being he has an NFL team?

So Groce is gone after next season then?

Well that was certainly an insipid presser.

Does it really matter if the feelings in Cham-Bana remain "us" (downstaters) vs. "them" Chicago?

Needs a strong showing in the NCAA tourney to keep his job, I would guess.

I think he'll survive this season, because of injuries.

The new AD will want his own guy eventually though.

Groce may leave on his own though after the season if he knows what is coming.

Hopefully the new AD is a forward thinker and puts more resources into upgrading the baseball facilities. U of I is not only way behind schools in the B1g Whatever they are also behind many other regional rivals. Baseball is quickly becoming a money making sport and the smart schools are taking advantage. An upgrade in facilities will certainly help keep some of the many many high school players from going to out of state schools.

Groce's entire tenure has been plagued with injury issues. He keeps trotting out JuCo transfers because he can't land any impact freshmen recruits.

That, and he really can't coach.

Not that Illinois could hire anything better.

Look, Ron Jeremy in a pinstriped suit.

Not saying KHAAAAAAAAN is or will be involved but let's just say Mike Thomas wanted nothing to do with him. He'd be my first phone call if I had the job. Look at what that kind of influence has done for Oregon and Okie St.

And they are down to 2.

I know some Purdue fans who are going to be irritated if it is Whitman. They would like him to be the next AD for the Boilers

Quote:
linois is deciding between two final candidates for the athletic director position, according to a source.

The search committee was divided on Josh Whitman from Division III Washington University and Patrick Chun of Florida Atlantic, and so recommended both candidates to interim chancellor Barbara Wilson.

Wilson has reportedly said that the university would make a hire by the end of the month.

Whitman played football at Illinois (1997-2000) and has been the athletic director at Washington in St. Louis since June 2014. He spent the previous four years as athletic director at Wisconsin-La Crosse.

Chun has been at Florida Atlantic since July 2012 and engineered the program's move into Conference USA. He spent the previous 15 years at Ohio State, where from 2009-2012 he provided oversight for the external relations division. He also served as the daily administrative liaison with the football team.

Illinois has been without a permanent athletic director since firing Mike Thomas on Nov. 9 amid scandals in the football and women's basketball programs.

Not many. He made the "Others worth mentioning" section.

The choice seems like it will be the AD at Xavier if he is interested.

He didn't even go there or work there though.

That doesn't have to be a requirement either but it helps.

Whitman hired.

As per normal Illinois standards, it looks like he was at least their 4th choice for the position.

And the football coach, an elevated Tim Beckman underling, got a two-year extension before the AD was hired. I figured Champaign had some lakes and forests, but I didn't know it was Lake Forest.
