It's a very top-heavy bowl season, IMO. Lots of good matchup in the big games, and a lot of clunkers in the smaller bowls. Maybe that's what happens when there are 40 bowl games and some of the slots have to be filled with sub-.500 teams.

It's still the best time of the year, sports wise, imo.

Some of the games that I can't wait to see:

Michigan State vs. Alabama - This is what everybody had in mind when the playoffs were created.
Notre Dame vs Ohio St - holy crap , yes please. For a non-playoff game, this is fantastic.
BYU vs Utah - in Las Vegas. If there aren't at least 2 bench clearing incidents in this I'll be stunned. These schools hate each other and BYU is dirty as hell.
Toledo vs Temple - Too bad Toledo's coach already bolted. This could still be the sleeper game of the whole bowl season, IMO.
NIU vs Boise St - Finally got these two schools to face each other, but they are both down this year.
UNC vs Baylor - I can easily see either team blowing the other one out, but maybe lean UNC due to Baylor's injury situation.
LSU vs Texas Tech - I'm setting Fournette's o/u rushing yards at 224.5. He could do something crazy in this game if they feed him.
Northwestern vs Tennessee - I think NW wins this game to cap off the maybe the best "quiet" season of any team this year. This team could be top-10 when it's all done. Nobody saw that coming in August, not even MUD.

Hell, I could go on and on.........I hate that they've destroyed the huge NYD schedule of games, but I like that there is a game pretty much every day for 2 weeks.

LSU/Texas Tech is kind of interesting. Battle of the wills between teams that couldn't be more different.

It is looking I will be in attendance in Memphis for the Liberty Bowl to see Arkansas vs Kansas St., just extending the Christmas vacation a little longer. 8)

The Foster Farms bowl is selling the matchup of 8-4 UCLA and 5-7 Nebraska hard. I've seen:

- Nebraska - hardest luck team in America
- Storied Powers
- A team no one wants to play (other than the 7 teams that beat them)

Give me a break with the Go Big Red crap.

bowl committee saved NYD, at least local with the Cats and ND

If Nebraska had a decent coach and a real QB they would be a dangerous team. The N stands for knowledge.

They have a good coach. Just need to learn how to defend a Hail Mary.

Spot the fake bowls

The Rose Bowl was the first, in 1902. By 1937, there were six college bowl games. Two years ago there were 35. This year there are 40. Forty.

The Bacardi Bowl and the Astro-Bluebonnet Bowl and the Beef O'Brady Bowl are long gone, but so many remain, so many in fact that it's hard to keep them all straight. So many that it would be hard to tell the real bowl games from the fakes, as we challenge you to do here.

Hint: Three are fake. The other seven are actual bowl games, which is almost as hard to believe.

You got 8 right out of 10.

Is BYU going to go from one of the offensive innovators during its heyday to the wishbone Nimatilulo ran at Navy?

strike that, he's staying at Navy now

I'm glad to see Sudfeld get some recognition. They should beat Duke.

I picked this game up at halftime. It was one of the most entertaining football games I have watched in a long time. Weird ending regarding a rule on a FG based on height of the kick that can not be replayed.

Also, the young KR on Duke has speed and moves. He looks very "Hester-ish". Someone to keep an eye on for the Bears.

The arrogance of the executive director of the College Football Playoff is remarkable:
Quote:
“Sure, we're aware of that, but we just decided that people will watch these games,” CFP executive director Bill Hancock said. “This playoff would be successful if it was played on the Fourth of July. People watch the NCAA Tournament on Thursday and Friday. This is an iconic national sporting event and people will watch it.”

Yea. I hope the ratings are down so they go back to New Years Day.

How much are you willing to part with......they will NOT go back to NYD next year?? EVEN IF the ratings are terrible this year (they won't be).

The ratings drive advertising rates and revenue. If the ratings are terrible, you better believe moving the games back to New Years Day will be discussed and considered...especially if the sponsors prefer New Years Day.

Not next year.

Maybe after that, but not next year.

I'll repeat what I said last year, why would you purposely chose a date that limits your audience. Lots of people work on NYE and will not be home for 3 pm. That's a great game and I doubt I will see a play.

I agree. Also, won't a lot of people have prior plans for NYE night that will result in them missing at least part of the second game, too?

I already told my host to have at least one TV tuned into the game but casual fans aren't going to highlight this

Doesn't the W coaching staff have to be questioned for how much this guy did in ONE HALF of play?
He did nothing like this all year long.....
