D1 Baseball released their preseason top 25. No surprise at the top. Florida is absolutely stacked. I'm a little surprised Louisville is ahead of Vandy. Cal and Miami are also teams to keep an eye on. I thought maybe Maryland or Iowa would show up somewhere but that northern bias is strong. I'm sure they'll both be there sometime during the season.

Any of the state schools have a chance in their conferences? Is EIU still a dumpster fire?

Eastern is terrible. They have a new coach (Jason Anderson) but he has a huge hole to dig out of. They won't be relevant for years. Bradley has a chance to be pretty good. They have a bunch of juniors and seniors. Illinois won't be terrible despite losing most of last years team. They had a couple drafted juniors come back and they have a pretty good freshman class. They'll make a run at the regional.

The season starts tomorrow. Hawger your Hogs are on ESPN3 at 3pm against Central Michigan. They're going with Tacollini on Friday nights. I thought McKinney would win that job if they kept Jackson in the bullpen. It's going to be a fun year.

I hope so. He's not just a big strong kid. He's got some athleticism. I saw him hit a couple bombs last year. He just needs to do that a little more consistently. I think it's in there and I'm really hoping it comes out this year.

Good kid too.

Severely broke his leg when he was three and had a long recovery from it. His sister played four years of hoops at NU.

What's going on with your Hogs, Hawger? Extra inning games against shit buckets Eastern Illinois and Western Illinois? If they can't put away those god awful teams what are they going to do against the SEC?? They gotta figure out how to score some damn runs.

Caught some Cal-Texas this weekend on the Longhorn Network. Cal looked great. Scored like 5 in the 9th to win the 3rd game. They have a kid whose first name is Ripken (whose brother is named Rolen) and another one who is named Daulton. Kody Clemens looks like a prospect.

Post subject:  Re: 2016 College Baseball

Daulton Jeffries is ok for an undersized righty. He has a lot of helium right now but I don't see first round stuff. If you're a 6' righty you better be really fuckin special and he ain't that. He has some pitchability and his secondaries are ok but it's efforty and I don't see him holding up for the long run. I've seen Clemens a couple times. He's an undersized righty too but he does have a pretty good arm. When I saw him he was just a rock thrower. Maybe he'll develop a secondary or two in college but if not he'll only go as far as his name can take him.

Rethinking that Iowa for the Big 10 thought?

They are really struggling to score runs.

Post subject:  Re: 2016 College Baseball

Nah. They'll still be there when it's all said and done. Yes they are struggling to score runs but they've only played 1 home game. The bats will heat up with some home cooking. Mason McCoy can flat out hit and he's not going to stay down for long. Same with Tyler Peyton. I think freshman Luke Farley and Mitch Boe will start picking it up too. They're just too good to struggle like this for long. They have another tough weekend series at Missouri St but things will start to get easier for your Hawkeyes after that.

Cal Eldred's kid is really good. Heller is really happy to have him back in Iowa I bet.

I'm sure he is. I don't know a whole lot about him. He transferred from Indiana but I never heard a reason why. I think he's Iowa's Friday guy until/if Peyton comes back. I think he's draft eligible this year. I'll ask a couple guys how he's throwing.

I'm sure he ended up at IU for two reasons 1) Dahm was on his way out at the end of 2013 and 2) That was IU's peak years.

He didn't pitch in 2014 so fresh arm hopefully.

Penn St vs Illinois on Big 10 network today at 3pm. Game 2 of a DH. Fr. Cole Bellair (Lockport HS) should be the starting pitcher. We'll see if the Illini can get s good start out of someone besides Cody Sedlock who threw a gem last night.

Post subject:  Re: 2016 College Baseball

Bradley and Southern have winning records but yeah for the most part Illinois baseball sucks. There are many reasons why but the two most important ones are shitty facilities and not being aggressive on the recruiting trail. Illinois schools default to the "safe" college player and let far too much talent leave the state. They're obviously going to lose the top guys to southern schools with better weather and stronger competition but there are a ton of really good second tier players who end up in Indiana, Kentucky, Michigan, Missouri, etc. That shit has to stop.
