He is definitely a "Point A to Point B" kind of coach.
He can't carry over regular season success to Bowl games.

Check out the scores from his 6 appearances:

Lost:30-23
Lost:38-35
Lost:45-38
Lost:33-22
Won:34-20
Lost:45-6

There is no point C for Northwestern. Fire him and you might not even stay at point B.

There is no doubt he loses his teams after the season ends. I follow them every year and it looks like the same rerun every season. Hid defense just fell apart this bowl game, like it does most bowl games. He should be fired for not recruiting a JuCo QB this season. Thorsen sucked all season.

Why pick on such fruitless topics?

Well,I follow NU athletics. I guess the interest here is on par with their attendance.

They're never going to be a National Championship contender. 8-10 wins and a good bowl is about where they're at with Pat and I'm sure the athletic department is happy with the money that can be used on the women's lacrosse or field hockey team...whichever one that keeps winning championships.

Fitz couldnt be more secure in his job if he played for a certain baseball team and then became their manager!

I would say, at the very earliest fitz is 6 years away from a firing.

Getting his new facility built, has been chasing it for 10 years and now it will be up and he gets to recruit with that tool.

Its NU, then dont ever expect to be great, just a good run every 5 years is all they ask for.

yep. be careful what you ask for, you just might get it.

Very doubtful they get a better coach if they fire Fitz.

Better just be happy with what you got. You could be Illinios

I'm in favor. Then I'd never have to hear about them again.

While football players have relatively lower standards to get in, it is still much higher than everyone else they play. The pool of impact players with both GPAs over a 3 and over 25 ACT is not very large.

"Ohh,don't do that...things might get worse"

That's a bullshit loser mentality. I'm sick of his Rah-Rah bullshit while he let's hic OC & DC do the real work. They need an X's & O's kind of guy who also can recruit. Let's not be afraid of taking that next step.

Either that or have a designated coach for Bowl games.

Yeah, fire a coach for not winning bowl games nobody really cares about.

You mean recruit all those 3.0/4.0 GPA guys from South Florida that run 4.2 forties, can catch the ball and take a hit, that are just dieing to play football in Evanston Illinois. I agree, they need more of those guys!

It's like the poor man's Dan Bernstein: I. DON'T. CARE. ABOUT. REGULAR SEASON. WINS. I. WANT. BANNERS. FROM. THE HOLIDAY BOWL.

A New Year's Day bowl is about as good as can be expected.
