Schiano has been the guy I have been proposing for years. It will probably end up being someone like PJ Fleck

Schiano is a big money guy these days. U of I doesnt pay big money, they are a stepping stone school....and when you keep bringing in the MAC flavor of the month, you go nowhere....because you are already working with a NO NAME guy....making the recruiting harder, and when he becomes a NAME guy....out the door he goes.

Illinois just spent a ton of money to remodel the stadium and practice facilities. They need to put butts in the seats. Pay the man.

Agreed. Money isn't going to be the issue.

They need to get Thomas out and some Administrative stability before they can get a solid candidate in.

I am not sure you drank enough vodka today at lunch with all of this news.

Celebratory drinking!

The abuse of children puts a little damper on the celebration but I appreciate their sacrifice. Drink to that.

Tim Beckman was paid $1.6 million per year as Illini football coach. He was the highest paid state employee.

Bill Cubit makes $550K

U of I has loads of money. Money will not be an issue.

If PJ Fleck continues his current trend, he will get better offers than U of I

Dr Ken is right, Illinois needs an over haul in the whole department before beining in a coach.

Big name coaches go for double that, at a minimum.

However, U of I would pay it if they could find one, but there just aren't that many.

The next coaching hire in football or basketball will be African-American.

Bet on it.

Interim head coach Bill Cubit might be the least of the university's problems at this point. Illinois AD Mike Thomas should be fired. Former AD Ron Guenther should be appointed to take over on an interim basis while the university conducts a national search for a new AD. And the new AD should hire the next head football coach.

For what it's worth,Cubit looks and sounds like a Head Coach. It's adversity like this that bands teams together.

82-3 so far.

I vote for Cubit in the next God election (unless Theo is running).

WIU sucks. This is a typical Cubit called game. Illinois starts out looking good on offense and progressively gets worse and worse. He just keeps recycling the same plays over and over. Continues to do things that don't work. He overkills the plays that do.

Illinois doesn't have a playbook... they have a leaflet.

Let's just have a moment, BC.

No to that bolded part. But that is probably what will happen. Guenther fucked up everything at the DIA. I don't want his tentacles anywhere near the school. Thomas will likely get the axe when the new chancellor is hired. I really hope Cubit doesn't go 8-5 and end up with a 5 year contract. And a colossal no to PJ Fleck. Dude's a clown and part of this new trend in hiring "bro" coaches like Sumlin and Kingsbury that chest bump their players on the sidelines.

I'm not much of a betting man these days but, as documented here, I do have a keen sense of how an Illini football team will perform in particular games.

I'd pound the Illini -3.5 today at home.

Shouldn't they have thrown money at Mike Leach a couple years back? I would've offered the guy the moon and the stars to come in and take over. Instant relevancy. And if you couldn't outbid Washington State for his services, well then you might as well just pack it in and apply for MAC status.

You should have focused on the money line and still would have had to pray at the end.

I do not think that the upcoming Nebraska game is winnable but this is the most vulnerable the Cornhuskers have been since the Bill Callahan years. If the Illini had some of their better receivers healthy, like the ones who can actually catch and hold on to footballs, I might be inclined to believe they could pull the upset. 45-28 Nebraska.

If the Illini were ever gonna beat the Huskers, last year and this year would have been the years . . . but they lack punch. 33-12 Huskers.

Any chance for an Illini win tomorrow? Lunt looks god-awful when he plays on the road. Haven't seen much of Iowa. Is this one of those years where the Hawkeyes go 10-3? I have tickets for the Ohio State game later in the year. I've already convinced myself Illinois will pull the upset.

Moral victories are for losers but it was nice to see them be in a road game against a quality opponent. Hopefully a few guys get healthy with the bye week. Wisconsin is beatable.

Was at that game, not even a college football fan but I got roped into going with a few relatives. With 10 mins left and up by 6 Iowa ran it like 20 consecutive times. That run defense couldn't stop a nosebleed
