For leagues that reset the waiver order each week based on record/points...

Anyone ever consider attempting to go low the first week or 2 on purpose. I've started 7-0 before and seen my team fall apart by week 12 since I can't sniff the top waiver spots.

Alternatively I've seen people start 0-4 and run the table. Seems like there could be value in that, especially if you plan going into the draft. You can load up an WR and plan to grab waiver RB's as ACL's explode.

i would agree with your assessment that a good mid-season waiver claim can carry you to a title... and that top teams who can never acquire top talent due to waiver order tend to fall off in fantasy playoffs

To combat this our league switched to free agent auction bidding (FAAB) for waiver claims... this makes it fair to all teams.

It's a better strategy to make good trades.

Yup. FAAB is the way to go, and if you can't convince your league to change to that at the very least you should have it not reset every week. That's the worst way to do it.

Agreed on FAAB. But if I'm already in a league that does it, why not try to exploit it.

Integrity my friend.

It's not a bad strategy but I would try to kick out anyone who employed it for next year's league.

why? it is not a lock to work... i mean the hot week 1 waiver claim last year was tarik cohen and he wasnt able to sustain production... it could be a spectacular failure

I failed at my attempt at tanking. I loaded up on the suspended players grabbing Edelman, Ingram and Winston, figuring I'll have injuries and they would make good replacements.

I lost my 3rd round pick because of the Mckinnon injury, but lucked out grabbing Connors and Bears D off of waivers post draft.

.5 PPR and I'm sitting at 156 with Cooper Kupp to go.

Rivers, Conners, Barkley, Gronk, Bears D. This should be a good year!

I like Breida or Golladay from your list. Also that TE for the seahawks may be worth grabbing for your bye cover. He seems to get decent plays called for him.

Meanwhile my strategy completely backfired. I'm last on the waiver wire right now with the highest point total in the league. I'm guessing this is the way for most leagues if someone grabbed James Conner off the trash heap before week 1. I'm 2 weeks away from adding Edleman and Ingram into my line up and my team will be complete.

Rivers
S Barkley
J Connor
M Ingram
M Breida
T Cohen
L Fitz
C Kupp
J Edlemann
Funchess
Gronk
Bears D

Upgrading WR or QB is the only hole left. I have Winston too, but he may not have a job to go to.
