You should seriously consider just taking whatever they give you and keeping a serperate phone for anything remotely personal. Trust me on this. I work in telecom. I used to manage the cellular contracts we had with nextel.

The worst thing that can happen to most workers is being given a cell phone or a laptop or (although you rarely see them) a pager because now your company, for the low low rate of about $20, owns your free time. You can't say "I didn't get the email/text/vm".

Oh, and we fired a guy once (name of Blaine) for calling in sick for two days but his GPS said he was at Cubs/Sox games. Fired another guy because he was in a bar instead of at a jobsite.

These are just thoughts frmo a guy who has been in the workforce for about as long as you've been alive.

I see what you're saying, but what do I have to hide?

It's not about hiding. Think about it. Is your time off worth a cell phone?

Think about it though, you're getting all ready to do work for free. At night, on weekends, for no more money, and times when you used to have no work to do, you'll find that you have work to do, and some point in the near future, you'll be on a date, and that fucking phone will ding, and you'll have to take him home early.
