Is there much difference between 1st and 2nd gen iPads?

I'm looking at getting one for my wife and the 1sts are a lot cheaper, but I can't seem to find a good comparison between the two generations. Is the 2nd gen worth the cost?

Only huge difference is the cameras. If she wants those, go two.


FWIW, I bought a first gen and didn't see a need to upgrade. But the second gen is pretty cool.

Get her a laptop or the new HP tablet.

iPad 2 is 2 times better thus the name.

The major reason to get an iPad 2 is that it's faster. Now, that doesn't matter now but when a new operating system upgrade comes out it's possible that the original iPad will run slower on it to the point where you may not want to upgrade or you may not be allowed to upgrade. The second generation ipod touch cannot be upgraded to the newest OS. The third generation can. New applications may not run on it then because it doesn't have the new features. This happened with the MLB at bat app and the early versions of the iPod touch.

That's probably not a big deal for most people.

Does that mean Roadhouse 2 is twice as better?

They'll basically all say that it's faster and has a camera.

I have both iPad and iPad2. My iPad was 32gb, the iPad2 is 64gb. I highly recommend spending the extra money and going 64gb. I was really surprised at how quickly I filled 32gb.

iPad is bulkier - the iPad2 is like half the thickness. I really don't notice any screen difference. The two cameras are a great feature. I think iPad2 runs a bit faster (or maybe the apps have gotten to the point that they're not as glitchy as they were when I first got the iPad).

Oddly enough, there are times when I'm holding iPad2 that I wish it had a tad more bulk to it. Maybe that's because I really liked the iPad.

For someone who hasn't had a tablet before, I'd say just go iPad2. The cameras, being able to Skype, etc make it worth it.

Daniusoft DVD to mp4 converter is a must have (and there's a freebie if you friend them or like them on Facebook). I've been converting tons of DVDs for both iPads, and it works great.
