Have a couple issues with strange things happening when certain letters are typed. For example anytime a r is typed it shows up as r- Anytime v is typed it automatically jumps to the beginning of the page. So for example if I type helluva it shows up
vahellu

I have ran a spyware program. I have ran virus checker and it brought up one thing. I cleared that away. Still happens. I cleaned the keyboard really good and even removed the problem keys and cleaned underneath them. Still happens.

Any help??

Windows/Mac? Operating system/OS version? Does it occur only in web browser windows or in things like notepad or word or textedit? If it is browser exclusive which browser?

Windows 7

It has happened in Chrome web browser and in Word.

Those are the only 2 programs I checked. I first noticed it when Icould not log into my email.

Have you spilled anything on the keyboard in the last few weeks? Is there any history of the machine doing similar crap? What kind of laptop is it?

Toshiba Satelite

I don't think anything has been spilled on it. It has sat by an open window for a week or so and I keep having to clean off dust/pollen from it.

Search "system restore" and it should have a date from hopefully not long ago.

Try holding the right shift button down for about 10 seconds. It may enable or disable "filter keys." See if that does it.

If that doesn't, try this:

1- Turn off computer, disconnect the power cord, remove the battery.
2- Press the Power On button for 10 seconds
3- Replace battery and/or connect power cord.
4- Turn On computer + immediately press F2 key repeatedly
5- Press F9 then press Enter
6- Press F10 then press Enter

Computer should restart and hopefully that fixes it.

Dewskie's guess would have been mine.

One of the partners at my company isn't very tech savvy...runs into this on his laptop often. Always forgets the fix.

Ended up being able to turn off Filter Keys / Sticky Keys and the like permanently through Windows settings.

Just saw this. There could be crud in the keypad. Plug a desktop keyboard into the USB port and try it. If it works ok then then that is likely your problem.

Keypads are not hard to change -- at least not on my dell.

Just wanted to thank you again for this. Had another issue tonight and used these 6 steps and it worked.

Appreciate it!
