Anyone know if you can disable calls and texts yet keep data going on an Iphone? Scenario is I am going out of the country and am not getting a temp package for that. I would like to use it wifi rather than bringing a laptop. I do not want to have any bs calls or texts running up some huge bill. I am assuming over wifi imessages would still work.

Keep it in airplane mode the whole time. You can still connect to wifi with it.

By the way, as long as you don't answer, calls are free to ring. Receiving texts can be really cheap but sending them can be expensive.

You also should get a free text message when you enter the country that tells you how expensive calls/text will be.

It depends on your carrier though. I think texts received were like 5 cents per text in Mexico.

Also, if you want to turn off airplane mode, be sure to go into settings=>celluar=>celluar data and turn that off and even the roaming that is right before it.

I have an awesome plan but no international coverage (outside NA). To temporarily add on they charge you but it really only discounts the rates but they are still high. Anyway I'd rather be left alone on vacation except the most important urgent family stuff.

Then just go to your settings and turn Cellular Data off. Then get on Wifi and give your mistress your Skype handle.

And while I do not believe you have a son, if you did you would need to tell him not to send you texts saying "call me when you get this!" That is what popped up last year on my phone when I connected to a starbucks wifi when our ship docked in Jamaica. Of course I thought he was either dead, in jail or in the hospital.

Turns out he had had a toothache which he had already figured out how to handle on his own.

Exactly the calls I do not need. Now that you mention it how funny is it that with phones kids cannot solve anything without immediate texts/calls to you.
