The arcade game thread mentioned some soul-crushingly hard games. Well have at it (consoles too).

Ghouls and Ghosts (or whatever the first one was, was it Ghosts and Goblins?) and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles for NES. Ghouls and Ghosts was worse because I could at least get close to finishing that one. TMNT, that one I never came close.

Never could get past the 3rd stage in TMNT.
Can't beat the stage past Frankenstein in Castlevania.
Stopped playing Metroid Prime before I could finish it.

I never had the patience to play Super Mario Brothers all the way through.

Pitfall 2 was bitch and a half. But that was accomplished. The original wasn't that bad.

Pitfall actually ended?? I thought the game was messing with me and just continued forever.

I didn't even try Pitfall 2.

Friday the 13th
Ghouls and Ghosts :?
Top Gun - I could never land on the damn carrier wtf?!
Ninja Gaiden for the X-Box is possibly the hardest game I've ever played but I eventually passed it after a few near strokes, aneurysms and heart attacks

Friday the 13th, Jekel and Hyde, Spy Hunter. I never figured out how to actually play the last two games. They both seemed like you were on a never ending level.

That game seriously pissed me off, but I still loved it. 8)

actually this is partly why i love watching AVGN's videos, apart from them being just hilarious. a lot of the games he complains about, i couldn't beat either.

"the karate kid", "rocky" for SMS, "TMNT", and "top gun".

i beat pitfall 1 & 2 but it took a LONG time.

back in the day i was much more HORREDcore when it came to gaming and i was better at beating stuff. now i just give the fuck up.

i also wanted to beat "return to zork" but my copy was buggy and it would kick out right before the comedy club sequence.

Definitely could not beat TMNT on NES....I also could not get past Double Dragon on NES...not the arcade version, but their version with the added levels...the falling stalagtites (sp)...

What I like to do now is watch people on youtube and how they do it...

Altered Beast on the Genesis is a mother fucker. I could never even get past 3 levels.

I could beat Tyson, but I had to have my friend beat Super Macho Man. I'd geek out when he did his spin punch and get flattened.

It took me buying one of those old nintendo strategy books to finally beat bald bull the first time.

I was already mentally defeated every time I made it to Tyson

I somehow managed to wreck shop on TMNT on NES. Always used Donatello due to the bo staffs range and power

Double Dragon 1 used to wreck my shit bad. I was good at part 2

I needed strategy guides for Castlevania 2

you shouldn't feel bad about that, hernandez. they made the game pretty much impossible to finish without one. we got tips from my friend's brother who had been reading nintendo power or something.

calling that tornado thing...who the hell would know to do that?

I couldn't beat Dracula in Castlevania III, I think I got to where he turned into a blue demon or something, then he'd kill me.

Two games that I never beat were the original Zelda and Tyson. I have both
downloaded on my Wii and was thinking about trying to work on them during
the winter starting from scratch.

Can't blame you for not wanting to finish that one...

Gears of War on Insane difficulty...I managed to beat it using the glitch where you get RAAM stuck on one of the barriers and he is defenseless, but I never beat it legit.

Also, I never could finish Halo 2 PC on Legendary...fuck, I didn't even make it past the first couple levels now that I think about it...
