is "the Game' MLB the premiere baseball video game? and if so, is it updated often?

I notice most games always do an update before you play. Does baseball update the players? Can a player get better on the video game if he is having a better year?

Would think a MADDEN like mentaility for this might be a good idea for MLB and the 'speed it up generation"

Yes to all. They do roster updates, and there's definitely a patch that comes out within the first week or two of the game to address any glaring issues. It really is a very good baseball game, I would put it on par with Madden.

Does the hype exist around it like Madden? Tourneys? Those free agent cards?

Would think MLB would be all over supporting guys who play this stuff as professionals.

Imagine playing a PLAYOFF GAME on the Big Screen? Maybe it would pack the place like those Video Game tourneys sold out the Staples Center

The Show is THE baseball game. The Game doesn't ring a bell.

Well I am glad the Vidheads could put down the joysticks long enough to chime in. Which comes back to the essence of the problem for MLB.

Video game industry revenues were 46 billion last year. The money trickles up to some rich guy in a suit.

Coincides with Dorito sales, cases of diabetes and fat kids...also all going up.

At least if they had an event they would leave the house for a few hours and eat nachos elsewhere

Huh? Sales for Madden are probably close to 5 times what they are for The Show.

Did I hit a nerve? Dont think any correlation exists between vast hours of video games and overweight kids?

Cmon BF. You start a thread asking for advice from video game players and then you switch lanes halfway through and start insulting those same video game players.

I would think that the list of people here who deserve to get shit on goes on a long long time before you reach Lipid's name?

Wouldnt really call it 'Advice', was asking if they treat 'The Show" the way Madden is treated in terms of tourneys, pros playing, promos?

and to be clear Lipid took the first shot here, I fired back...simple as that.

To answer your question. Yes, The Show is starting to get a Madden like hold on the market but other games (RBI Baseball) are emerging and it might not last

I'd say the Show damn near already has that kind of market share, and they didn't have to go the EA route and get it artificially.

Wasnt being passive aggressive at all, was asking /suggesting that MLB could or is , possible to do the Madden stuff. I dont know exactly what is done, but I know my nephew spends a ton of time "collecting cards" on madden during the year, he watches You Tubes videos about guys that update it....My nephew calls me and asks me if Barry Sanders is better than Walter Payton for his ALL TIME Team, because he has enough coins to buy one of them.

I dont think MLB has that going on, but they might...and should....that was my sole purpose....the fact those that do play these games chose to take shots is a different issue.

Well, you certainly follow the industry closer. Maybe it has the same share. It certainly doesnt have the recognition of a Madden yet.

you mean they didn't have to pay for it like EA has done with a strategy of buying up all the licenses and then releasing he same shitty game year after year?

IMO anyone who buys or plays ANY EA game is a huge douchebag who is helping lower the level of quality for video gaming across the board.

See the real discussion wasnt that hard and I think MLB would be very happy to see 11 year olds gettin into the SHOW like they do with Madden....

Yeah, that's pretty much what I was saying.

Agree to disagree on the second part...EA publishes too much shit I still want to play to blackball them because of their monopoly on the NFL scene.

I thought when that all went down that each league chose one company to use for it's game. Is that kinda what happened or not?

Remember ESPN football and EA Sports MVP etc?

The story goes that, in retaliation for EA buying the exclusive license for making NFL games, 2K bought an exclusive 3rd party license for MLB games (thus why Sony was still able to put out The Show).
