There are some really subtle things that make this game look great. Just adding the animals make Reach seem really alive. From a story perspective it will be really interesting how they tackle a story that you know ends very badly for the planet.

So yeah...I've pretty much failed in my attempts to "go dark" so to speak...

Actually I'm not really surprised, having read Fall of Reach and First Strike...but still...that's something I really wish I wouldn't have known about ahead of time...

Lipid... a bit of unsoliticted advice. Avoid "the internets" until Sept 14th. My experience has been the game is so much sweeter when you back away from all the "leaks" and "previews" and take in the game fresh. Bioshock was such a wonderful experience for me partly because I made myself ignore all the pre-release hype.

I agree, but I would extend it until Sept 14th, 2011.

I know Best Buy gives you the choice of picking an option for getting it on launch day, and they'll start it the day before so it arrives on that day.

Would a Halo n00b like myself need to play Halo 3 before trying this game out? (Yes, I know I should technically go all the way back to the original Halo, but I don't own a regular XBox).

I think from a "story" perspective this is a prequel, so you shouldn't have much problem understanding what is going on. From a gameplay perspective, I'm guessing playing Halo 3 for awhile will get you familiar enough with the game controls to be very effective in Reach.

Separately, I'm kinda stoked to be able to play some firefight with y'all.

Having seen what occurs in the game, I'd say what you'll be missing more than anything is context...stuff that happens in the trilogy is referenced...but I think you'll still get enjoyment out of the story even if this is your first Halo game.

Gameplay wise, you would do well to play some Halo 3 online, but from what I played in the beta, Reach is going to play a bit different...the shift from equipment to armor abilities, the addition of loadouts, and the changes made to how certain weapons perform really made it play different...so much so that the bnet forums were littered with "ZOMG BUNGIE RUINED HALO THEY FAIL" posts on a consistent basis...

Oh, and for the record Ugie, your 360 will play the first two games...

I cancelled my order for the Halo Reach console bundle. It has the old controllers and I want the new ones when they come out. But I'm still picking up Reach... only problem is, I leave for business on the 14th for 3 days... bad timing
