There's a feature I'd like to see added to the next wave of consoles. I do not have much of an attention span when it comes to entertainment. Or maybe its that there are so many entertainment options that I have a hard time picking one and sticking to it for more than 45 minutes to an hour before I want to watch/play something else.

Its not uncommon for me to be watching a blu ray and an hour into the movie getting an urge to get in one quick game on Pro Evolution Soccer. Or maybe I'll be playing soccer and after a game I feel like playing some Borderlands and then going back for another soccer game a half hour later or maybe back to that movie. The problem is to make these switches its never as easy as pressing a button. You have to first eject a disc and then load a new disc and wait for it to be playable. On the 360 this could be as long as 5 minutes.

What I'd like to see is for the new consoles to have a carousel tray like a 6 disc CD changer that I'm sure we all owned at one point. That way you can switch back and forth at the press of the button between multiple games and movies.

Anyone else want something like that or am I alone on this one?

I think a second tray would really be all you need...that way you can be playing one thing while prepping the next disc.

That being said, I don't see it ever happening.

yeah, 2nd tray would be perfect, especially if it had the tech to load up the 2nd disc while you are playing the first. Instant switching between 2 medias at the click of a button.

I'm assuming the extra moving parts that would be needed coupled with a complete lack of public demand would be the dealbreaker. Its a shame, I think this is one of those things that people don't realize how much they want it till they have it.

Am I wrong? I haven't had to change discs in my PC since....2003?

You're not wrong but you're missing the point.

I've heard rumblings that future consoles are going to try to move away from discs/hard media and move towards an on-demand or completely digital media - so you would get your wish, although for my tastes it's not worth the cost ... way, way, WAY too exploitable by DRM, etc.

And IMU, you can put your PC boner in check ... I don't need DRM-related 'downloads' forced on me to play games, thank you. Yes one can pirate the game, but that can also be done on consoles, so that argument is a wash.

Consoles should allow full installations of games onto the HDD, therefore allowing 100% disc free gaming.

Again...what PC gaming has been doing for almost a full decade.

I really wish you would have just began with that...I agree.

If that's the case, then that's different. I do, however, have general doubts about any given entity instituting increasingly draconian rules about what you (supposedly) have purchased and then quickly backtracking without plans to push forward again.

You're still a PC-fag however, and we can't do anything about that ... for now ...

How mature of you.

I suppose I should've used one of the smilies ... I wasn't being serious (well, maybe the burrito part) ... I'm lucky my computer plays friggin' FreeCell, so I ain't got anything to say about PCs ...

Is this better? ---> :eye: :P  :D  :afro: :santa:

I think that would be an awesome $99 add on to a next gen console.

External disc drives read extremely slowly. It would have to be a SATA add-on.

Built in would be better...but the industry is moving away from physical software, so this is all pointless really. Just give us downloadable games, or games that you can fully install on hard drives. New software will come with an activation key...if you buy the software used...you also have to buy a $5 or $10 activation key from the publisher.

NBD.

yeah, this would've been a more realistic possibility for the current console generation, especially with the emphasis on Blu Ray/movies being almost as important as playing games themselves.

Once discs inevitably become obsolete I assume the consoles that follow will have the ability to have MANY games and movies stored on the hard drive at the same time and switching between them should be as easy as clicking a remote button.
