Only a few more months away!

If you enjoy video games, and just began to enjoy hockey, then you're bound to love the EA Sports NHL series.

This year, the designers of the game didn't just rest on their laurels of being the best hockey franchise for a few years now, they have made a lot of changes to this already great game to make it feel more realistic. So they have added a new physics engine that will make the game feel a lot less controlled, meaning that the environment that you play in will be a lot more random, as they try to imitate the real game. And because of this the creators of the game say that it is nearly impossible to recreate the same thing twice.

From the website:

Quote:
Pioneering the next step forward in team sports video game realism, the all-new Real-Time Physics Engine brings real-world highlight reel moments in-game like never before. From face-offs to body checks, real-world puck and player physics trigger true-to-life reactions. Now anything can happen, including the ability to shoot and make plays while lying on the ice.

Here are Some of the New features of this years game:

Broken sticks
Improved faceoff realism
Improved AI realism
more Dekes
More realistic Goalie controls, and Goalie AI

And for the Be a GM and Be a Pro mode, they have signed with the OHL and WHL and other junior hockey leagues, so you actually start your career from the beginning, and for Be a GM this means that you can actually have a much better look when scouting players, this is a huge addition.

And probably the greatest addition:
Disallowed goals 8)

here is a game-play video of a disallowed goal...

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HLO9GRUx ... r_embedded

And for shakes, Notice who scored that goal? Kessel, so you know it's realistic!

Oh and here's the decision on that goal:

I'll almost definitely check this out. I haven't played a hockey video game since either NHL '94, '95, or '96. I can't remember which year it was, but it was on Genesis. I still love Ice Hockey for Nintendo.

I'm gonna pass this year. Starting with NHL 10 I think they are making the game too complicated. As a casual player, I don't really have the time to learn 8000 new moves every time a new version of the game comes out. I was happy with NHL 09, gave up on NHL 10 after only a couple times playing it because of the new board play. This version sounds like it adds even more new things to worry about.

Between playing and coaching I don't have time to dedicate the energy needed to enjoy this game.

Unbelievable. You won what 3 out of 5?

We should plan something real lame/fun when '11 comes out...

Dude, I looked online once but couldn't figure out how to specify an opponent. I just resort to the randoms.

How do I add you?

Having played the demo, I am a little concerned with the new faceoff movements and slower skating speeds. It seems to me that there might be a threshold as to how detailed a game can get before it becomes frustrating.

Yeah, wasn't a big fan of the new faceoff mode, but it didn't seem all that hard to still win, so I guess it didn't bother me that much. As for the speed of the game, you can adjust the style of the game in the settings from: Arcade to Normal to Hardcore, and in doing so you can alter the pace of the game and how realistic it feels...

Is it that much of an improvement over NHL 10? The reviews I've seen just state it has all recycled game modes, and the new physics / controls are nicer, but not a revolutionary improvement. As much as I'd like to, it is hard for me to spend $60 two years in a row on sports games, unless its MLB The Show.

Depends on what you like, I spend most of my time on be a gm, and that mode has been overhauled with real-life contract structures, so it feels like a totally new game to me in that aspect. As for game play, it feels like NHL 10, but the hitting is much better, sticks are constantly getting knocked loose in front of the net, goals are getting reviewed... I guess I'll put it this way, the changes from 10 to 11 are much greater than the changes from 09 to 10... If that helps at all...

 sorry about that...

And just an FYI to anyone who cares, in the game, Kovy is asking for 9.3 million a year, and no one can afford him

Define "constantly"?

In real life this might happen 1x a game at most. If it happens a lot in the game I could see that getting really annoying really fast.

It's weird shakes, the first game had broken sticks left and right, and players dropping sticks once ever two or three minuets... but since them it has only happened about two or three times a game... I think it depends on the style of play. That first game I was crashing the net, fore-checking like crazy, and hitting the hell out of my opponent, but after that, I was more concerned with fine-tunning my scoring ability, so I wasn't as physical... I don't think there is a quota for broken sticks per match, I think it mirrors the style of play... But give me a few more days of playing to make sure...

My Be a Pro on the Knights got a game misconduct for his second boarding penalty of the game, hope this doesn't affect my draft status...

Just picked this up Saturday.

Normally I don't touch any of the settings, but I'm ready to turn off penalties because I'm tired of getting called for fucking boarding every 2 minutes.
