In the least surprising news of the year
Quote:
We can confirm that Gran Turismo 5 will not be available this November 2nd, but the game’s release will be coming this holiday season.
We sincerely apologize to GT fans for the delay, however, creator Kazunori Yamauchi and the team at Polyphony Digital want to make certain they are creating the perfect racing experience, and we are confident that this ambitious game will exceed expectations when it launches.
We’ll have more information for you in the near future.

Gran Turismo 1 is still better than the latest Forza.

So is Rad Racer and R/C Pro-Am

If the game was going to release November 2nd, it should have been done by now...the fact they are delaying the release to "make it perfect" tells me there are serious issues and as such they will either release a less than stellar game for the holiday release or they will hold out until Q1 of next year.

Hopefully they make the right choice and push the release until it's done. To paraphrase someone wiser than me (I think it was Newell, but I can't remember for sure)...

A late game is only late until it's shipped...a bad game is bad forever.

Well that's the thing, Rock Band 3 is supposed to be out the 26th. Last week some retailers messed up and some people got retail copies of the game 3 weeks before it's release date. Here we are, 3 weeks before GT5 is supposed to be out and they announce a delay so obviously they weren't close to shipping it and they obviously must have already knew that. The thing that leaves some hope is that if any studio would hold back a game unless it's absolutely perfect it's Polyphony Digital. Heck they don't even want to release DLC because they want the game complete when it ships and as soon as it does they're going to concentrate on GT6. Now there's gotta be some huge friction because you'd figure Sony wants this out by Christmas to boost PS3 sales, does PD give in?

As is often the case, we'd feel a lot better if we knew why. Then again if it's delayed because of some feature that they didn't really need to have that they tried to stuff into it, I'd be peeved. I mean NASCAR sounds ok, but if it doesn't support a full field or a full series it's not worth it. Go-karting? Fun, but ultimately pointless.

I guess you could say there was a bit of Fallout from the decision to postpone GT5, you know what I mean????   :!: :alien: :drunken:

Yeah, I'm in the same boat, except I went with cities xl 2011...

Here's some more heresay
Quote:
Got this quote from the GAF:
__________________________________________________________
Like I said it is manufacturing issues. I had it confirmed today.

The problem arose when SCE mandated SDK 350 on all games releasing after after October, GT5 was about to go gold running on SDK 341, but it has been delayed by around a week so that they can update to SDK 350. This has caused a big headache for the manufacturing side, given how big this game is missing the gold date by even a week can cause a months worth of delay as slots are already taken up at this time of year for Blu-ray movies and such. So Sony had to find a 3 week slot big enough to make 7m+ copies of this and get them shipped out.

If you want to blame anyone, I would direct it at the pirates and hackers, SCE never had any real SDK restrictions before firmware 3.41 was compromised.
___________________________________________________________
It makes some sense since the last firmware was hacked and they don't want GT5 pirated obviously, but who knows

Blaming this on hackers? Did I read that correctly?

If there aren't illegal copies of this game being played before it ships, I'll be shocked.

Speculation/

It's not really the game being pirated though. The thinking is that you require the 3.5 OS to run GT5. Your choice is now that you can have your hacked PS3 running 3.41 and not play GT5 or you can install a non-hacked (so far) 3.5 and play GT5. You then throw 3.5 on the GT5 disc so people who don't connect to the internet can install the OS and play the game (I think Medal of honor had 3.42 on the PS3 disc) and there you go.

It's Barbie dolls with cars. While I certainly don't know because it's not out, I would say it's a safe bet that no game of any genre on the PS3 (and therefore any other console) will show the true capabilities of the current console generation more than GT5. I mean it's going to run in true 1080p, not 720 like most HD games.

Notice the latest article you posted ended with this...

On Sony's official online store, a release date of November 30 for GT5 was posted, but Sony says the date is simply a placeholder.

A placeholder? Doesn't sound very convincing to me.

I really wish I knew this game would release this year...would effect my purchase of other games.

Pre-launch party in Madrid November 24th/25th. Seems to point to a Nov 30th release date. I guess they don't wan't to officially announce anything until they're 250% sure.

Quote:

Latest Internet conjecture is that there may not be a release date, that as soon as stores get copies of the game they can sell them. That's what happened when Littlebigplanet came out, it had no release date and Sony just told Amazon and whoever to sell it once they got it.

Again, Internet rumor, but there you go.

For a release the size of Gran Turismo, wouldn't that sort of hurt publicity and sales?

I'd think so, but if they know it will be sometime at the end of November, which would verify the past rumor that they just missed the deadline to have the game go gold by a few days and the delay was finding factory time to print and press them, then they should still be able to get a massive PR blitz out by Christmas. They seem to be moving with the PR anyway as the Madrid party shows as well as the GT5 car that ran the NASCAR Nationwide race this weekend.

Bonus possible footage of GT5, suggesting there are final copies out there.

Well ones that don't cost $200 at least. Lot's of good DiY things but they take up your whole living room. The only thing the fly honey wouldn't kill me for putting in the place I'm way too lazy to make.
