Greetings programs! I had a chance to borrow the X-Box today (no room in the family car for our hero and protagonist to see his little cousins, so I was able to pry the system away from my little brother whilst they're out) and one of the games i've got a chance to get into BIGTIME is dynasty warriors gundam.

Is anyone else here a mark for the third-person-beat'em-up genre that has come a long long way since the days of gauntlet (still a great eminently playable game a la bomberman, IMHO)?? or is anyone else here a gundam mark? back in the late 90s / early 00s i used to get on e-bay and get great deals on gundam models... altho someone fucked up my vintage ~1993 1/60 scale V gundam (long before the days of HG/MG/PG, or high/master/perfect grades respectively)

But basically this game is like mecha porn. Unlike the first 2 games in the Dynasty Warriors Gundam franchise, this one is cel-shaded so it looks like you're watching a proper anime or reading a comic... erm, GRAPHIC NOVEL, EXCUSE ME (neil gaiman undoubtedly felt a twinge in his nutsack as if my foot were rising to the cause of dishing out justice to that smarmy brit) and like previous entries in the dynasty warriors series or the gauntlet-style-beat'em-up, you basically end up fighting A SHIT TON of regular marks, finding value in chaining up basic combos whose execution would make MK2/MK3 fans proud (i.e. a combo = punch punch punch kick, or punch punch kick punch, or melee melee melee weapon melee in this game) and like yeah.

I'm sure there's a story involved, but it's probably a bunch of crap about mysterious gundam pilots showing up (HACKHACKHACKCOUGHCOUGHCHARAZNABLEHACKHACKCOUGHCOUGHHACKWHEEZE) and doing some dumb shit... who really cares? Basically, in this game unlike many gundam games b4 it (gundam is truly the star wars of japan. it's been around since the late 70s, exists to sell all kinds of merch like few other, and just about every videogame about it sucked up until a few years ago)...

ahem, basically in this game you really feel like you're piloting a proper godlike gundam mech cuz there's so many dispoable mechs that you just slay them mindlessly and it's like "whoa, this is even better than the anime, and i don't have to sit through a metaphorical sermon on the evils of tyrannical government/factions! wheee"

so what thinkest thou?!

/me expects this thread to join his THE ASSOCIATION VIEWING THREAD in un-replied greatness =D

HORRY CRAP THIS GAME IS DUMB FUN! seeing as the diamond-shaped-button-layout always makes me think of playstation controllers, the game is basically like SQUARE SQUARE SQUARE TRIANGLE! SQUARE SQUARE SQUARE TRIANGLE! oh he's down TRIANGLE TRIANGLE TRIANGLE TRIANGLE (flood him with bullets from afar, liberally apply square button manual-turbo to ward off the grunts who have showed up) SQUARE SQUARE SQUARE TRIANGLE!

so like, basically i guess i wished this had a little more of the virtual on feel to it. sure, whilst virtual on is technically a fighting game and this is a post-gauntlet button mashing beat-'em-up game, man, i wish that the bosses had a little bit more of that virtual on feel. for those of you who wouuld be n00bs in the realm of japanese distance fighters, HORRY SHEEEET man a properly-executed japanese distance fighting game is elegant. especially virtual on where like, in the arcade or @home with a pair of twin-sticks you're able to feel like you're piloting the bitch, and once you get going in a good groove it's like you're dancing with the twin sticks....

hot damn, did i mention that japanese distance fighters are elegant?

welp, back to the game. it's time to see how long it takes me to get bored of flying around hitting SQUARE SQUARE SQUARE TRIANGLE, SQUARE SQUARE SQUARE TRIANGLE, SQUARE SQUARE SQUARE TRIANGLE. it could go for up to an hour.

/me cries, wishing his ps2 worked cuz even with inferior graphics, man, virtual on marz did this thing more elegantly that this, even tho there's only like 3 or 4 enemies on the battleground at the same time, whereas this one provides you with like 75-100 at a time and you can get off to doing a big bad special attack chained to a combination and drop 100 guys inn a move, so like, someone warn gerard butler cuz i'm coming for that 300.... FOR SPARTAAAAAAAAAA

/me diligently goes back to the NBA "Association Viewing Thread"
