in some areas, 3g is 2mb download which is fairly quick for normal internet stuff. the biggest difference in my eyes is that 4g is "always on" internet, not like 3g where it has to do a virtual dialup to connect (slow, pita when it loses connection). for tethering, this reason alone will make 4g a LOT better.

I did what marketers are always telling people like me to do and so I bought my girlfriend a 4G phone. Instant buyer's remorse if only because it's so much better than my phone (OG Droid). The "always on" point is spot on. 3G feels fucking ancient when you've messed around with a 4G phone for a minute.
