I know there was a discussion about cameras a while ago, but I can't find it, so I wanted to pose the question here.

I need a new camera...the BlackBerry's camera simply isn't cutting it...what should I be looking for? I'd like to keep things under 300.

Thanks.

For what? I sold a house to a professional photographer (and a fucking moron), but I asked him which camera was best for taking pics of real estate? Prefer Wide angle, but not looking for a $1000 camera.

Panasonic Digital Cams had LUMIX lenses. It was $279 and had the LUMIX wide angle lense as a standard pic. Great call, been using it for 5 years. Still a great pic.

Got to admit, though, some of the action pics I see from the Bro in Laws camera are pretty cool. Sure he is in the $600+ area/

Look for something with the LUMIX lense

Nevermind.

Avoid the Nikon Coolpix like the plague. They are terrible in anything but perfect lighting conditions, and even then only average.

i was going to come into this thread to say the exact same thing as IMU here... except i was going to pursue the angle that they're pieces of shit that break down after awhile... i had two of them do that.

i'm far from a photographic expert or anything... i just know how to pick my subject matter and frame the shot, so i'm coming from a very straightforward-n-visceral place here. the camera i've been rocking out for something like the last ~4-5 years or whatever is this panasonic lumix camera. when it came out i think one of its big selling points was some form of image stabilization, tho i'm pretty sure that'd be standard across many brands by now. what i like about it is that it's a very well-made durable camera... it's bounced around my pockets through countless live shows and other nights where i felt like doing DIY photojournalism, and it's still going strong. sure it's got some electrical tape support going on in order to keep the battery hinge closed, but i've abused the hell out of this thing and it's still churning out my pictures 'lo these many years, so i'd heartily recommend panasonic cameras for the durability reasons alone.

I had been wanting a Lumix for awhile, but my wife bought the Samusung PL200 back
around tax time this year and for a 1/3 of the price, it does everything the Panasonic does.
