I'm a little surprised we haven't seen or heard much about MW3. I'm wondering if that is good news or bad news. Are they just keeping the lid on something or is this just a MW2 reboot? I saw they cut the price a bit on Amazon... I wonder if they are attempting to fight a marketshare battle with BF3? I doubt they have much to worry about. MW3 has such a large built in fanbase that they will outsell BF3 (at least on the consoles) by a factor of 2-to-1 (that's completely an uneducated guess!).

Does anyone know the details about what is going to distinguish MW3 from previous iterations?

I think they got rid of the stabbing perk and the marathon perk which will make people happy, and now you have to hold your breath if you want to be really accurate with an assault rifle... I kind of have a feeling that they also focused more on the story this year(which I like) so maybe that will be longer than 2 hours...

Im not trying to pick a fight, but what makes you say that it is similar? I guess I just have no idea what to expect from this one. The fact that we haven't heard anything is a little strange. Not sure if this is good or bad.

I'm guessing they don't really even care.
I doubt there's much alarm from them by hackers unless user information is being stolen. It's just how the business is run. The cost of hack proofing a system, while impossible anyway, wouldn't be worth the price to make the game.

OK, so nobody hacks any part of any other games. Only this game, right?

I still don't think they care. Certainly not embarrassed considering those idiots will equal or outsell an apparently far superior game and product.
If it was about game quality, this wouldn't happen. It's clearly the bottom line and nothing else, just like Madden.

Do they rent game systems anywhere? Like XBox for a week? I wont buy it, can't have it in my house on a permanent basis, but a few days off, could do some fine brain damage!

Pidgeon forecasts gamers will pick up as many as 15 million copies of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 this year with latecomers adding another 5 to 10 million purchases in 2012.

"Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 will likely perform more strongly than Battlefield 3 on consoles, and although it will sell on PC, I expect Battlefield 3 to do better on PC," said Pidgeon.

Michael Pachter, videogame analyst at Wedbush Morgan Securities, forecasts Modern Warfare 3 will sell 16 million copies this year and 9 million next year, which is similar to last year's Black Ops sales. For Battlefield 3, he believes EA will sell 8 million copies this year and 2 million next, but he believes a solid Metacritic rating could boost those figures.

"I believe that Call of Duty will outsell Battlefield 3 by 2 to 1, which I have no doubt is a number that both companies will be happy with," said Jesse Divnich, analyst for EEDAR. "We know that Call of Duty has the potential to hit as high as 25 million units this holiday season, if Battlefield 3 obtains half of that, I am sure Electronic Arts will be satisfied." Even though EA's game hits store shelves earlier than Activision's title, analysts don't believe the two "3s" will hurt each other's sales. Pidgeon believes there will be a fair amount of overlap with over half of gamers buying both titles.

"Both should sell strongly and I don't expect much cannibalization of initial sales," said Pidgeon. "The competition for online, however, will be very strong, and although there will be players who prefer one to the other and will be less likely to switch, many online players will migrate between the two games. This will be important for sales of game add-ons."

"My best guess is that 80% of Call of Duty players are in it for the multiplayer, so I don't see many of them defecting," said Pachter. "It's only the 20% who are up for grabs, and I think that for every Call of Duty player who defects to BF, there will be another new Call of Duty player born."

Battlefield 3 ranked third on the Xbox Live most played list...

...Black Ops and MW2 were ahead of it.

MW3 will slaughter in console sales...vice versa for BF3 and PC

It's dated 10/14/2011. And who's arguing PC/console sales number. I'm certainly not.

Good for them. Hopefully they sell 10 billion copies. I don't have any vested interest in either company.

I need to update my 360... would it be lame to just get the MW3 console? 300GB of storage and two of the new controllers (with the new D-pads).

Isn't this about that time when the next generation consoles are going to be announced? its been about 6 years or so... you might just want to wait...

Battlefield 3 was only available for 4.5 of the 7 days that week. (Not out on Monday, down almost all of Tuesday, and down again part of Thursday)

The other two were available the entire week.

You might have wanted to footnote that.

Ok, so not out on Monday, but it's their own damn fault it was down those other two days...

...plus, it's measured by unique users...so anyone playing once during the week counts the same as someone playing non-stop for seven days...

...I don't think it mattered how many days it was up...people love (for better or worse) their MW2 and BlackOps...

All I'm suggesting is that the next week's numbers might show a different story.

Maybe.

After all, most XBox 360 users are in such a position where they have to save up 6 weeks worth of allowance before mommy and daddy would let them purchase a new game.

"I put all the money in my pockets, versus all the money in your pockets..."

Yeah, it's not going to tell a different story...the only thing that stands a chance of cracking the top spot is MW3, and I'm not even sure that is going to knock off Black Ops, to be honest.

I wasn't going to buy this yet but it looks like my call of duty change jar fund easily has enough to cover this purchase. Looking forward to it.

Good stuff thus far, the maps are all sorts of different sizes which was something I was worried about, the kill confirm mode is a great add.

The weapons you use have a leveling system where you can get better perks with the more kills you get with the weapons... like reduced kick and extra attachments ect..

The lobbies for customizing your classes and game modes haven't changed at all...

Hmm...still gonna be playing campaign by then, but if I see a massive CSFMB confitgent, I'll jump to the multiplayer...

...speaking of the campaign, I'd reckon I'm a mission away from being done with the second act...so far, not a lot of new stuff (save a few gadgets that I found very cool to use) but there is a lot of refinement...just got done with an even better version of the AC130 gunship level...fucking amazing.

Holy shit was that a bad experience at Gamestop. 2 registers going and probably about 15 people deep at both registers. Every single person in both lines were trading games in. The guy in front of me saw that the other line was moving quicker and probably could tell I was annoyed with the line mentioned that line was shorter so I jumped over there. Well than that line came to a stop and the guy that I was right behind was up to the register in no time. 4 other people checked out behind him before I got to the front of the line where the cashier promptly answered a phone call and basically stopped working all together even though there was still a huge line. 25-30 mins later I finally got the game. Fuck

I've played three chapters so far on the campaign and am pretty pleased to this point. The multiplayer changes are also cool, although rather minute.

However, the killstreak that involves a wave of gunships?? Like a fucking wave of death. Awesome.
