smart move, because free is the only way to keep x86 android from taking over. fire with fire. freemium revenue model is now fully adopted by the industry. get used to micropayments, sure you can use office for FREE, just pay 10 cents every time you click "save".

its just really interesting because microsoft is trying to turn into google but still hold 90% share of the business market.

their biggest problem though is losing games to consoles. and with androids spectacular gaming support, the two os's are really competing directly with eachother now. makes sense that microsoft is going freemium, but nobody on the planet 10 or even 5 years ago would have predicted this. it really shows how fast this is all changing.

is it really going to be free though? it seems like they want a subscription type model as they referred to it as a service

think of it like android. they want you to buy the apps. the os just gets you in their ecosystem.

there is also a claim that microsoft may allow android apps to run natively on windows. this would be a ploy to bring back developers. they are hesitant to do this for obvious reasons though. but if free windows 10 doesnt generate enough interest, surely allowing android apps would put the value in microsofts favor for the fist time in years.

I signed up for the free upgrade. Hopefully the Windows Golden Rule of every other Windowz OS release being good holds true. Start menu is back...good enough start for me.

Don't want to fuck with the current alpha or beta release though.

Looks as if they're really going to be pushing apps. Nothing will be called software any longer as far as they're concerned.

Nor do they run games or reliable software. My boss has 3 powerpoints on his mac and none can properly display slides perfectly. Font spacing issues even with correct fonts installed. Gradients are inverted. Slide animations dont properly carry over.

Macs are great for college kids. About it.

I'm immensely happy that my current graphic designer uses Windows instead of Mac. Graphic designers on Mac are a business liability.
