I've been around this board since 2005. I'm no big shakes in here. I haven't met any of you, but I have used CSFMB to vent. I had to say goodbye to a friend today. She took her own life. It's sad and tragic. She was a wonderful person, but very troubled to put it mildly. I've read just about every topic under the sun here. I've seen threads on suicide and mental illness, so I know some of you here can relate. I will never comprehend how someone can be so despondent that they think laying on the railroad tracks, and allowing a train to run you over is the only viable option. I guess I'm grateful I don't know how that feels. I'm not here to convert or preach, but alcoholism and mental illness are two progressive and fatal diseases. They don't have to be, but some people never get or truly want help. I've dumped some heavy shit here, and I'm not claiming the board saved my life, but it gave me an outlet to channel my feelings. She never could do that consistently, and it killed her. I know she is at peace today and is no longer suffering. Thank's go out to a few of you here. If you've ever offered me encouragement, or just said hang in there, thank you. If you've ever told me to fuck off, thank you. I'm sure I needed it at the time. I've vented my spleen here before, and wrote some nasty shit. As I said, I know none of you on a personal basis, that's just how it's worked out. But thank you to anyone here who has provided me with a laugh or made me think. Rest in peace my friend.

My Uncle had a railroad track that ran behind his house and did this very thing some 20 years ago.
I guess, he just got tired of living and got busy dying.
I apologize for the preceding. It's impossible for me to empathize with that train of thought.
We, as the living, just have to respect their wishes and move on, as tough as that may be.

You're good people, Dallas, don't ever forget that.

Well, I'll say it again, A7.

Hang in there.

2 of my high school classmates have taken their life. It still boggles my mind when I think about it. to some, it's the only way out.

Sorry about your loss, A7X. :( May your friend now finally rest in peace.
And, I'm sorry your friend felt that way for so long. I have lived with major depression for most of my life, and before finding the right combo of meds/therapy, I frequently had suicidal thoughts. I was afraid of fucking that up and living with yet another failure in my life. The chemically unbalanced brain is a bitch.
I realize NO words will help you now...take care of YOU. (((hugs)))

Geez ... I won't pretend anything I write can take a chunk of that confusion and grief away from you, but if I might, I'd like to say I'm awfully sorry and do try to hang on as, inexplicably, time does somehow help heal all wounds, even this one. :(

And I for one never thought you were shakes' older brother.

A7X, very sorry to hear about your friend. I hope you can take this in stride and feel free
to post what you need to out here. I can understand from personal experience a lot of the
things she was probably thinking but am glad I didn't turn to the ultimate decision in the end.
Hang in there the best you can.

My sincere condolences, A7X.

My wife's cousin jumped in front of a train many years ago (I never met him). Was also a heavy drug user and apparently thought he was superhuman.

Mental illness and substance abuse are two areas everyone should take very seriously. Especially on this board. It is no laughing matter.

Keep your head up, A7X, and try not to question too much. It'll be hard, but you'll be better off.

That is terrible to hear A7X. Stay positive and feel free to use us as a punching bag anytime you need. This board IS great therapy.

My mom's mom died and my dad's brother fatally shot himself in the head while my grandma was in the room
right next to him within weeks of my birth. My mom says I'm the only good thing that happened in 1974. That's debatable.
:(
Sorry for your loss, AZX.

Sorry to hear about your loss A7X. I can not even begin to comprehend how someone can take their own life. I guess that's probably a good thing. Having said that, today could be the last day on this earth for any one of us. Take care of yourselves & your loved ones every single minute of every day.

Sorry to hear about your friend, A7X. :( Hang in there.

I have a friend's nephew going through the same thing with alcoholism and now suicide attempts. In this case, the guy feels like he's so far gone in being addicted to drugs and having been in trouble with the law that he keeps saying there's no hope. He had made a suicide (overdose) attempt on Sunday night. We keep trying to give him hope and do all we can for him, but it's not looking good. He's got to want to do it for himself.

In many cases, I think that it's a matter of being able to get to people before it happens as many times it's a cry for help and wanting people to notice and help them in their life. In other cases though, there's simply nothing anyone can do. If they don't want the help and don't want to live anymore then there's nothing anyone can really do except do their best to help them.
