He was Bill Wennington before Bill Wennington.

I remember Tom Boerwinkle was Neil Funk's partner on the Bulls Radio Network when WSCR 670 was known as WMAQ All News 67 in the early '90s. I also thought Boerwinkle was in the oil business after he left the radio network.

Did you know he was the #4 pick overall?

A little before my time, but you are correct. The Bulls selected him with the #4 pick in the 1968 NBA Draft, and he set a franchise record in 1970 when he corralled 37 rebounds in a January 8th game vs. the Suns.

I'm old enough to remember that 1970 Bulls team. They were right there at the top in the West. The Lakers and the Bucks were better though.

I was born in 1971, but OKC, I bet a lot of Bulls' fans don't remember that they were a Western Conference team at the beginning before becoming an Eastern Conference team some 20 years or so ago.

I remember having a basketball card of his as a youth. Have to say though my first "guy" as a young bulls fan was Gilmore. If Boerwinkle was so great why did they get Artis?

That said RIP.

I'm sure the guys on BOTH radio & TV will use a small segment of their pregame shows to pay their respects to Tom Boerwinkle before tonight's game vs. the Heat, let alone a moment of silence before tipoff.

Does anybody care when an old, slow, white ex NBA player who could never ever in one (1) million years compete against the monsters that now rumble up and down NBA courts to the tune of making 45% of their shots , dies?

This is sad. I liked Tom. He competed against the two greatest centers of all-time. He was noted for his passing ability and rebounding...RIP

C'mon Brogue. This isn't the Dan Bernstein Message Board.

Dammit that reminds me, I forgot to fit cognitive dissonance into the post.

R.I.P. Boerwinkle. Seemed like a good guy in a sportsworld full of arrogant d-bags.
