There are reports that the Cubby Bear North in Lincolnshire closed recently.

A worker at the Cubby Bear Chicago location confirmed the Lincolnshire location had closed, but provided no further comment. Owner George Loukas could not be immediately reached.

Advertisement Multiple posts by customers on a Cubby Bear North Facebook page and Yelp.com also state that the bar is now closed. The last post made on the Twitter account @CubbyBearNorth references an event held at the location on New Year's Eve.

The Lincolnshire location's phone number still works, but no one answered Sunday night.

Missed this some months back:

Schaumburg's John Barleycorn restaurant is ceasing its day-to-day operations, but will remain open exclusively as a venue for private parties and special events, its owner announced Tuesday. The restaurant opened at 1100 American Lane in 2008.

Schaumburg died with the end of the Alumni club and their $2 cheeseburgers on a platter served by hot women.

The Cubby Bear closing kinda sucks. They had a great March Madness lunch buffet to hit up and take a longer lunch instead of work. Other than that there are much better places to go (Beer Market, Eddies) nearby. Place was pretty much a dump.

Why would anyone ever want to go to anywhere in Lincolnshire?

Did a couple chicks from snuggery but there was a bar on division I think called the rockery. Much better.

Because no bar or restaurant in the city has ever closed.

No Cubbie Bear in the city has ever closed.

of course they are! first of all, there's not as many of the "brothers" around there, which a chicago cop once told me is exactly the reason why my parents busted their asses to have me grow up in a "good" house in a "good" area just so i didn't have to deal with.... * knock on the window *

a rather large african american lady is freaking the fuck out: "OFFICAH!!!! OFFICAH!!!! Y'ALL WERE CHASING SOME GUY WHO STOLE A FEDEX TRUCK AND WHILE YOU WERE CHASING HIM I WAS GETTING OUT OF MY BRAND NEW GRAND PRIX AND..... * SOBS * HE HE HIT MY DOOR!!!!! HE HIT MY DOOR!!!!! THAT GODDAMN MOTHERFUCKER IN THE FEDEX TRUCK TOOK THE DOOR RIGHT OFF OF MY NEW GRAND PRIX!!!!! OFFICAH I JUST PAID 20 GRAND FOR THAT CAR NO MORE THAN A WEEK AGO AND NOW THAT MOTHERFUCKER TOOK OFF MY DOOR!!!!"

* officer resumes * "ma'am please, go to the station which is right there and fill out a report. they'll know what you're talking about and the other officers will corroberate your story. i mean they'll back up your story. now go please"* lady leaves * "see the kind of FUCKING ANIMALS you're down here supporting? your parents bust their fucking asses so you can grow up in a place far far away from these FUCKING ANIMALS, minus the few good ones who want to get out and learn our culture, and yet they buy you a car and what's the first thing you do? come down here so you can give all of your fucking money to these FUCKING ANIMALS..... i feel sorry for your parents, i tell you what"

---

so yeah, my jaw dropped as i saw the most overt display of racism that i had ever seen (well since new years ea rly AM 1999 when zorba's @ jackson/halsted refused to let any black people in to get gyros.... but yeah, the original point stands because clearly that chicago cop (who had pulled me and my friend over for driving down chicago ave passing laramie because 290 was shit and we were coming back from a record store by western/division so we were working our way back over to the hwy with the hopes of getting on at/after 1st ave when 290 picked up for good. he ended up giving us tickets for driving without a seatbelt, driving without a driver's license (which we had), driving without insurance (which we had), solicitation of business "blows" (cuz he claimed he saw us talking to "three young african american males in hooded sweatshirts" at a stoplight, and uhhh some other ticket. in the end his story failed and we got off of all charges, except not without a poignant lesson: that the suburbs are better than the city.

so clearly this is going to be a blow to the endless masses known to make an afternoon of walking around lincolnshire.... i mean there's so much to do when you're hanging out there making the ~3-4 mile walk to your next place of interest along the side of roads without sidewalks.... i mean why do you think they wanted to take that walk-up experience from wrigleyville to the north north burbs lincolnshire is so dense that it's a natural fit and people will almost forget that they're not in wrigleyville when it's a nice summer day and they're strolling around to all of the different lil strip malls and shopping centers a mere ~30-60 minutes apart from each other. otherwise, goddamn, can you imagine building a place that survives solely on the strength/gimmick of its location in a place where everyone has to own a car/SUV..... and that's NOT in near proximity to the baseball team from which it derives its namesake?

welp that's the one sini tl;dr post for the day, i just had to tangent out and share that story of one trip back from the city gone awry and let you lot know the true moral of the story: that like imu has said b4 me, the suburbs > the city because there's less "brothers" aka "FUCKING ANIMALS" to deal with, and this comes from an unbiased keeper of the peace whose job it is to treat us all equally and with consummate respect, whether it's slagging off the hypsterial lady whose brand new car door got torn off during the police chasing a guy in a stolen FedEX truck, or the guy pulling us over and deciding to throw the book at us with every charge imaginable in the hopes of getting something to stick because he decided to let us know that you aren't even allowed to drive through the west side of chicago when I-290 is a parking lot circa 3-4pm in the afternoon.

if we had just stayed in the suburbs none of this would have ever haappened. notch 1 for imu/ch

not even sure why Loukas kept it open. The guy has a mini empire right here . Why the hell would you deal with a big club 50 miles away. Vines, Sportscorner, Cubby Bear, 3 Rooftop and 50 other properties in Wrigleyville.

I'm not sure how he set that up, but he had investors. I started to do some business with a Russian mobster who had put some money in that Lincolnshire Cubby Bear.

If I remember correctly that property sat empty for a long time before they took it. They must have gotten what seemed to them at the time a really good deal. Maybe they felt it was close enough to the Milwaukee Ave Restaurant Row to be viable?

I was there once; probably had no more than two beers. Drinking and driving in that area -- way too risky.

Barleycorn was in an awful location - far enough away from Woodfield and the office buildings to be inconvenient and tucked into a side street behind a Toys R Us. It never did much of a lunch business.

I think with the stepped up vigiliance of suburban cops for DUIs, that "mega bars" in the suburbs are going to struggle. When I worked downtown it was very easy to grab a few drinks after work and jump on a train ... now that I work in the 'burbs, no one wants to knock down 4 drinks and risk getting getting pulled over. Naperville's Finest in particular loves to watch cars leaving those downtown bars/restaurants after 11 o'clock.

Isn't Barleycorn off in some corner of an office park? I think I remember passing it going to McCormick & Schmick's or something and saying to myself that it was a rather odd location.

Yes, it's on the corner of two access roads connecting Plum Grove/Meachem and Golf/Woodfield smack dab in the middle of an office park. An absolutely awful location.

I don't know if the Cubby Bear was ever "nice" but the new places around it made it look even dumpier.

Like American Lane and National Parkway or something, right?

Last time I was at Barleycorn/Schaumburg was for a nightcap after seeing Cheap Trick in Elgin. Cops hanging in the parking lot, total Scottsdale vibe. Pass.

Yes. Really stupid location. It's hidden from the arteries of Schaumburg (yea yea yea ) of Golf, Higgins, Meachem.

I only went once for brunch. I think most suburbanites realize if they want the authentic shitty Barleycorn experience they might as well hop on metra or rosemont blue.

Cubby Bear is/was a shithole. I've lived here for 7 years and probably been there six or seven times, most of which were for show remotes back in the MJH days or a Pat McGurdy show.

Fond memories of the Rockery from back in the day. Me and a couple of buddies were getting our drink on and started talking in these bad Aussie accents and these youngsters thought we were authentic. They were hanging on our every word - "Outback Steakhouse is not authentic, mate. All you get there is a Bloomin' Onion and a really big knife." My buddy declared "Foster's is pisswater, we drink Wallabee's back home!" How he came up with that gibberish name for a beer I'll never know. The bartender rolled her eyes every time these guys went up for more drinks for their "Aussie friends."
