I think those who love baseball pine for the days when there were ample US born african americans playing. i just have pride in the greatness of baseball and get upset that:
A. baseball has done a shitty job of supporting inner city baseball, and
B. kids don't seem to really give a shit about baseball anyway.

When I was about 19 or 20 my family and I were walking down Clark and saw his car out front. My dad, a lifelong diehard Sox fan, got all excited and had us go in and meet him. He was basically the only guy in there, it was like 5:00 on a Sunday. Nicest guy, he walked out to his car, popped the trunk and gave me an autographed copy of his book. Still have it.
