They had some decent shit every once and a while. Just got a little too close to the sun with that sprawling warehouse down on 2100 S Jefferson and the Chicago Fire Festival thing.

My ex-brother-in-law worked on their production of Frankenstein at Steppenwolf about 15 years ago. After the play, my wife's stepfather and I were in the lobby and two old ladies were saying how wonderful it was. The old man got into a conversation with them and was going on and on about how fantastic the play was. We walked out to go get dinner at Blue Mesa and he leaned over to me and said, "You have no idea how much I hate these fuckin' plays."

The thing about Redmoon was always the spectacle of it. As far as set design goes they were the only ones in Chicago who bothered to innovate at all, even if they barely strayed from the Tim Burton/pagan Christmas aesthetic. I wouldn't put Redmoon on the same level as the stodgy Goodman or Steppenwolf acts.

The talent was fine, because for the past 10 years you can find decent talent off the corner and pay them nothing, but the writing was so predictable. They had a formula there, one that appealed to the liberal arts north shore/bougie city crowd, and they stuck with it.
