He was a great coach. My mothernlaw had season tickets back when he first took over, and I went to a lot of games during that time. It was amazing the difference he made in such a short amount of time. The entire atmosphere there was different almost overnight.

He made Purdue football matter. I was a student during the back-end of his time there and took the program for granted then. His retirement opened my eyes to how large he was for the program as the 8 years that followed were a disaster.
