They played some live version of a Journey or Foghat tune. Fred agrees with North that the version was good.

Some caller says that the lead singer in the version was not the regular, and that the song was eventually rerecorded.

North says you can see why they had to get rid of this lead singer. Fred then agrees with North that the version was bad.

After that North talked to Jen about something, yelled about someone's mother getting on the field, and tried to force the traffic girl to sing "Oh, Canada" for some reason.

That was the first half hour.

Useless information in my head: A newer Foghat live CD has a new singer since the old one "Lonesome Dave" died years ago. All Journey live CDs have original singer Steve Perry, but if the song was pulled from Youtube then Journey uses different singers. The new lead singer of Journey was recently found on Youtube in a Journey cover band. (my sister's married to a Journey cousin here)

North is, and has been, bored with sports for some time, and it is reflected each day by some of these topics you guys are posting.

Interesting comment BD. Is North trying to show the depth (hahaha) of his topics by spraying to all fields? To make himself attractive to other stations not just sports radio?

That is an interesting statement, especially in light of Boers lack of enthusiasm for sports as well. I wonder if the SCORE originals are burned out on the job but the money is just too good to quit.

They definitely are burned out. A little reshuffling of the lineup might be exactly what they need.

I've heard North actually say, during interviews with mainly non-sports guests over recent months, that there isn't much to talk about in the local sports scene.

Boers just told his audience on Monday (may have been Friday of last week) that he doesn't watch football on Sunday's outside of the Bears, and that is painful for him.

These guys are spoiled in their positions.

Pappy tried to do a "politics/entertainment" show when he started in mornings with Annie. He failed like we all said he would. The fired Annie. Pappy tried to be Stern. He can't.

(a.) Pappy's life isn't that interesting

(b.) He's stupid. He can't speak intelligently on sports. He's worse when it comes to politics or regular life issues.

Don't forget they also fired Buckman. one of Norths big problems is he can talk sports with his buddies or with guys at a hot dog stand - with them he's an excellent orator/BS'er or The Tallest Midget - but with mildly intelligent people he's an idiot.

Point (a.) is part of the problem though because he believe he's Mr.Chicago, and that his stories make for good radio. That's been an ongoing problem with him forever, and now, it's just gotten worse.

1. More Useless Info- The song was actually "Riding the Storm Out" by REO. It wasn't Kevin Cronin singing, must have been some original album cut, not the live version that everyone knows. It was awful.

2. Its pronounced DAN-TONY, not DEE-AN-TONY. For two weeks he's been saying it wrong. Idiot.

I actually agree with Boers on this one. The past few seasons have seen distressingly bad pro football. That the Bears have played so many (bad) late/night games has actually made it worse to me. (That the Saints were equally bad didn't help)

Think about it, other than Indy or the Patriots, most teams with winning records had gaping holes or were seeming frauds.

I think it speaks volumes about Boers' work ethic that Goff was shocked that he and drinky were the only ones on the show who actually watched sports.

I'm trying to find exactly what it is that Boers is selling as a radio host. He does not have insight into actual games, as he does not watch them. He has limited insider knowledge as he has been removed from covering sports for almost 15 years. I laugh even as I type this, but he is selling his personality.

The fact that the sports scene is bad is irrelevant. It's his job to watch, know, and talk about sports, regardless of whether or not it entertains him. He is paid well to watch these games, it's inexcusable for him to not be watching.

Goff being shocked speaks volumes about his age. Few I know above the age of 35 (or with kids) watch 1/2 - 2/3 of the major sports they/we once did.

What passes for 'insight' these days is wildly overrated, most sports commentators simply go down the know-nothing 'superfan' or Giangreco-smart ass paths. When Boers is on his game he simply provides perspective without the rose colored lens perspective or hyperbole that many now bring. While I appreciate that Boers isn't your cup of tea, after cynically watching so much for so long, objectively identifying/ridiculing the bad, the dumb and the stupid is fine by me. It perhaps is more of a throwback for me back to the days of edgier writers/reporters, etc.

I think Terry and Bernsie watch 90% of the Cubs and Sox games. At least while they're still in the race.

They talk about each game. They watch it. I think it's part of their shtick to act like they don't. That they hate it. Bernsie wants to portray that he's too important to be watching sports. Boers wants to act like he's bored of it. These guys have no life.

Bernsie is at home each night with his wife and kids. Boers doesn't go anywhere.

They watch all the games.

It's clear. So far this season they have commented on every game and gave specifics about the games. It's just their thing to act like they hate sports. Don't believe it. Even if Bernsie was a Doctor like he should be he would be watching sports every night.

If I want to listen to people who don't watch the games, I can listen to music or Kathy and Judy or whatever bullshit is on WGN. If you're hosting sports talk in Chicago, you damn well better watch the games, bad or not. This "I don't watch the games" crap is asinine. It's like watching Roeper and whoever his partner is these days and them saying, "We didn't go to any of these movies, they're too bad; now let's talk about these movies." Political commentators follow politics, TV critics watch TV, etc. If Terry Boers or anyone else is too far above all this meaningless sports stuff to actually care about it, then they should go get themselves another f***ing job that they do care about.

Are you referring to North? Mr. "I have the NBA package"? Mr. "I watch Toronto Raptors games so when I interview my good buddy Chuck Swirsky, I know of what I speak?"

He can't pronounce the name of the Suns (well, now the Knicks) coach?

The stupid get stupider.

I agree. My point is they do watch most of the Chicago games. It's clear when they speak about them. They just want to act like they hate it or that it's above them. Or that they have better things to do. Both of them don't have better things to do.

It makes them feel better about themselves. It's weird.

No doubt a sports burnout exists with the Morning group

He has been saying "Warwick" Dunn for a dozen years. Pappy gets his ass kicked by the English language almost as much as Bush does.

Thats right Chus. I called him several years ago when he as killing me by mispronouncing Eddy Curry's name. He said "Cure-ee". It drove me fucking nuts. I told him he would know better if he would have finished high school. he defended it and said he'll pronounce it anyway he wants. Thats typical but now he pronounces it right.

Sports talk radio is like high school, most of its a bunch of meatheads slappin ass in the shower, BB is more like Beavis and Butthead laughing at dick jokes in the back of class.

I've kind of noticed lately (and I'm sure it's been going on for awhile) that Mike brings up gambling and point spreads an awful lot. Like when Fred is giving the first update and they're just discussing the previous night's action, most of Mike's "analysis" relates to how each team did against the spread. Like this morning talking about the Celtics-Cavs series, he mentions how poorly Ray Allen played. Fine, no argument there. But it's because he took the over, and if Allen had just a hit a few shots....
