The super-jumbo is apparently on its last legs. Several of its few remaining orders have been canceled and those outstanding are unlikely to be filled as the super-connector airlines that relied upon them have hit financial trouble.

It looks like Boeing won in its bet on twin engine wide-bodies as the 777 and 787 are dominating the wide-body market.

The A380 isn't even wanted on the second hand market as the original deliveries (not even 15 years old) are being scrapped while circa 1995 777s are still flying.

Even with the subsidies, that plane lost money for Airbus. They have yet to make back their R&D budget on it. Their biggest failing was their inability to create a freighter variant of it. The 747, while nearly gone from passenger service as no one wants 4 engines, still flies as a freighter and new 787-8F's are still being ordered by UPS. Boeing has always known how to make money off of the air freighter market. heck, putting the flight deck on the upper level was a move of genius as it allowed them to turn the nose cones into a cargo hatch for easier loading.

I still haven't flown one of those 380s, and probably never will.

Airbus admitted their mistake by having to go build the 350s. The market just doesn't have a need for shuttle flights with 400 people on them, even on a route like New York (plus Newark) to London where there are probably 30 flights a day across airlines.

People paying big money want flight time convenience and not having to change planes at a hub, which is why the 787-900 and the A350 are gaining market share. Delta can't even make their 50+ year old hub at Tokyo (the old Northwest Orient post-war hub) work any more, too many people are willing to pay for the nonstop on a variety of airlines from the west coast straight to their destination on a 787 or a 350.

That old hub-hub model used to support several daily flights of 747-400s between DTW and NRT. Singapore Airlines is loving the A-350 and 787 as they are now using both for direct flights to several US cities which were previously unreachable or not economical on non-stop flights. Previously, you would have to fly to Tokyo and then take a codeshare partner of Singapore to your US destination.
