The other night, I'm flipping by this oldies music channel on my digital cable, and the song "North to Alaska" by Johnny Horton from 1960 is playing. I allowed myself to dream, and thought, "Yeah, if only . . . "
NORTH TO ALASKA by Robert Feder
It was announced yesterday that WSCR morning man Mike North will be leaving the station upon the expiration of his contract in July. North will literally be taking his act north as he has signed on with Radio KRAP in Juneau, Alaska to host overnights there.
"I took myself out of da runnin' to continue as da Score's mornin' guy," North said. "I wanted to do dis Alaska ting and make my new show da best it can be. We'll talk a lot of ice fishin' and dog sled racin', which have always been passions of mine. Ever have a fresh-caught fish wit a little Marconi giardiniera on it? It's da best, no question about it."
North also added he is already working on a song parody making fun of Eskimos for a CD to be released next holiday season.
Terms of his new deal In Juneau were not released, but sources tell the Sun Times it's more in the range of $17,000 annually, as opposed to the $1,700,000 per year he is reportedly earning at WSCR.
