I just read an article about the disappearance of the "Old Internet". It is kind of sad the way the Internet has been corporatized. It used to be a weird and wonderful place where you could find all manner of quirky sites. Now it's a place we use to show photos of our food. I would put College Humor somewhere in the transition.
CollegeHumor had a weird arc. I believe it started as kind of a bigfanian hare-brained scheme where some guys got in on the ground floor of words everyone knows: people like college, people like humor, put them together, $$$. The first time I encountered it circa 2004, it was like a more primitive Barstool/Chive. Then a few years later, they stocked up on people who all seemed to have gone to St. Connecticut's Boarding School For Fancy Boys and it became this nutty sketch comedy site. Then they all left for SNL and Adam Ruins Everything and it became bad woke humor to keep up with the times.
