True. And like Mike, Chet Coppock was also a pioneer that blazed a trail for sports radio in Chicago. Coincidentally, the two are also both radio dinosaurs whose time has passed them by and are in dire need to be put out of our misery.

Guys, Coppock's act involved slurping the subjects he had on the show. He still does the same on his show with Levine. Mike, on the other hand, burst onto the scene with an act that was very unconventional at the time in sports media.

That's true, and that's why North's show stunk for so many years.

The SCORE was a clear departure from and response to the Coppock style of sports radio. I have posted long winded messages on this topic in the past so I don't want to rehash the entire thesis. Mike North was the driving force in defining the new style.

I respect Mac's accomplishments immensely, but I think without North, the station would have happily developed into the Coppock style, as all other principal players were already in the industry. Mike showed them that not only was it okay to be different it was highly popular.

Mike was popular -- but the height of that came when he was with Jiggs. Things were pretty much downhill after the split.
North and Buffone -- a mere shadow of the Monsters.
Mike solo -- pure garbage.

Just heard the podcast of the interview and seriously, who cares. North sounded like he is so important that his firing on the score was like when JFK was killed or Pearl Harbor was bombed. Interesting radio, but really, at the end of the day, who cares.
