I worked at a Real Estate company in the city. The company transformed itself into much more of a 'consulting' company vs. former 'brokerage', which I did.
The transformation brought in a bunch of new people and they gave me a new boss, who basically gave me a new job, which was still in the same industry, but much less of a gig than I had before and the chance to earn much less. I knew my future was no longer at that company, but it was a paycheck and I was employed, which is something employers do look for. (I know, I am now an employer)
I stayed at this company for 5 more months after that day. I had resumes out, had interviews all over the place, but didn't feel pressured to 'just take a job'. No doubt I put very little effort into what I was doing, but I did get the job done. I understood this stuff happens, it was insulting to me that a person who had no idea what I had done for the past 5 years was now judging me, but I knew what was best for me right away.
Now, granted I am not perfect as I took a job with THE WORLD BIGGEST ASSHOLE, WHOSE DEATH COULD ONLY IMROVE THE LIVES OF 100's OF PEOPLE and I only stayed with him for under a year, but I did have many choices because I stayed at that company and took my time. .....it was years ago, but that guy was such an asshole! and I am not even saying it for anything he did to me, but to everyone else.
