I still miss the "Best of the Score" over-nite tapes, much better than Sporting News Radio live.

I think I know what you're referring, where the evening's "SCORE" update anchor (Joe Bartosch, Mark Vasko, Chris Rongey...) would host a nightly rewind of the marquee interviews from 670's local sports talk shows for an hour before they switched over to Sporting News/FOX Sports Radio at Midnight. I believe it aired for a few months before 670 AM acquired the White Sox Radio rights & the tape delayed broadcast of "The (NEW) Dan Patrick Show" in late nights. Also think "Best of the Best" which has now also vanished from WSCR...

I liked it as well. I think they used it as a lead in to the morning show. Unfortunately Dr. J seems to have that time slot pretty well sown up and SNR is free broadcasting, so...

Personally I thought J-Hood had one of the best late night sports talk shows going. I was not happy when they switched him out of that slot.

Factually speaking, Les Grobstein was the last local overnight host at "The SCORE" before he got fired in that credentials fiasco at Seattle's Safeco Field. Management at the station & parent company CBS Radio decided not to replace "the Grobber" after the fiasco and they've aired syndicated sports talk radio from FOX & Sporting News Radio, both now based in Los Angeles, after hours ever since parting with the pride of Von Steuben High School...

*buzzer sounds*

Wrong. Tommie Williams was the last overnight host at "The SCORE."

I left the Score July 31,2001 and J.Hood at first was put on overnights, but then T-Dub was switched to overnights. I ended up at Sporting News local outlet WCSN-AM 820 from April to Oct 2002 when they dropped that format. In Sept 2002 the Score went to the National crap and let TDub go. I had a local remote a day or two later from Oak Park and TDub was one of my live guests. About two weeks after that,WCSN went bye bye locally, and then Mitch Rosen hired both TDub and myself to do a weekend show(Saturdays) on ESPN 1000,which then became Sat & Sun. Then Mitch left the Station and Len Weiner came in from Bristol and slowly screwed around with our program, and he dropped it completely in Sept 2003. He let Tommy go,and jerked me around while 'claiming' he wanted me to stay on. But that was BS and I resigned in April 2004 after Len again said he wanted me to stay on,but didn't assign myself to anything.
Anyhow, there was talk of a local overnight show on 1000 in early 2002 to go head to head with the Score, but Bristol would not let them pre-empt Todd Wright, who a couple of years later got whacked and now is polluting the air waves at SNR(and on the Score).
I always have lots of people(via emails and in person) wanting to see LOCAL programming return to the Score or even 1000,but ESPN wont ever allow that, and the current upper Management(above programming)at WSCR seems to like the cheap price of the SNR garbage they are spewing right now.
One last thing, for the 1,000,000th time, the REAL reason I was let go by Harvey Wells at the Score was because he just wanted me out of there, and wanted to begin clearing local ovrnights away. The credential thing was, as Ted Cox called it in the Daily Herald 'a ruse".

Grobber-

What do we need to do as listeners to get SNR off at 11pm and you and Tommy back on somehow. I miss hearing you guys. You're both an endless well of knowledge and you made me feel like I was listening and/or talking to some regular guys without egos.

Mitch, if you're reading....lose SNR and bring them back. Give 'em some of North's money!

I'm not so sure Sporting News Radio will be around much longer. I think they're a part of FOX Sports these days, and like FOX, their studios & offices are based in Los Angeles. I predict within the next 5 years, FOX Sports Radio will swallow up Sporting News, and I think they & ESPN Radio will be the only syndicated sports talk radio networks.

Les, can't you get anyone to let you have an overnight show? I'll sell the damn time!
