Hurt was alright playing crazy in that serial killer movie film. Hurt's career slowed down to a supporting actor after Jeff Daniels started taking his lead actor roles.

When I think of him, the first thing that comes to mind is his role in Children of a Lesser God. He was teaching at a school for deaf people, so the movie had a lot of sign language. However, rather than just using sub titles to explain what the deaf people were saying, they would frequently have Hurt translate the sign language, even when he was arguing with people. So he would end up saying stupid things like "What?! I have a big butt and I smell really bad?! Nice! Very nice!" He of course didn't say those things, but you get the idea.

Not sure how he is viewed overall, but I always considered him a lousy actor who was in dogshit movies.

Had not seen that one before, good sketch. Back when Kevin Spacey still gave a shit (Usual Suspects, Seven) and didn't just play a parody of his prior roles (and wasn't known as the gay Epstein). Surprised to see a KITH guy in a sketch, thought Lorne Michaels didn't want them on SNL for some reason.

One of the few actors that could actually pull off a convincing Philly accent.

He was good in The Doctor.

Hurt was also in Broadcast News with Albert Brooks, an 80s movie.

fairly good movie that's about a cynical and depressed moscow detective who discovers - what else? corruption; after a triple homicide. not one of lee marvin's best roles, but joanna pacula is good to look at. not sure in today's world that the ex soviet union plays well.
