Does anyone remember the old AM 1000 sports show Coppock On Sports. That was always fun to listen too especially Friday night fights.

He's too busy eating on air instead of conducting interviews.

Coppock might have been an arrogant jerk but yes he laid a lot of ground work for WSCR and WMVP.

Do you understand the correct way to use the word "but?" In a sentence that goes "[Thought A], but [Thought B]" the but is used to join two thoughts that are incongruous. It is used to illustrate an exception (Thought B) to the first thought (Thought A.) For instance "The banana was rotten, but I ate it anyway." I used the word but to indicate that even though most people would not eat rotten fruit, I did. Again, a good example would be "It's snowing outside, but my house is warm and toasty." This illustrates the difference between the cold outside and the warmth inside.

Your sentence has two primary thoughts. "Coppock might be a weed" and "His Coppock on Sports program was one of the first sports radio shows in Chicago." Do you see how these sentences don't display any incongruity? Because someone may or may not be a weed, I wouldn't expect that to have any bearing on them creating a new style of radio in Chicago. In fact, looking at Mike North, I might expect that! In that case, I would use the word "and."

For practice, correct these sentences:
Seinfeld was a popular show on NBC, but Jerry Seinfeld was born in Brooklyn.
Schulykill River runs through Philadelphia, but Pittsburgh is the second largest city in Pennsylvania.
Mike North is a Webio pioneer, but he is fond of dogs.

It's not that wrong. He's saying that the guy's a prick but you can't deny his influence. And he is a prick.

Also: goldendomer, you've been here less than one day and you're at 100 posts? I don't have 100 posts' worth of thoughts a day. I barely have 10 posts' worth per day. My problem is that then I'll post 15. Still, though.

Chet Coppock is one of my idols, and needless to say, he helped pave the way for many of the guys you hear on both ESPN Radio 1000 & 670 "The SCORE" to this day. While Chet didn't take a great deal of phone calls on "C.O.S." from the "paying customers", his many interviews with the likes of legendary Dodger manager Tommy Lasorda, former L.S.U. basketball coach Dale Brown, Utah Jazz President Frank Leyden & boxing promoter Bert Randolph Sugar were legendary every time...Besides, when Chet, Dan McNeil & Terry Boers did the old "Friday Night Fights" segment, I couldn't help but giggle...

Please put me in your mean words on your first day here list. You've ruined other message boards, and you'll ruin this one. 11,000 posts in 4 months is too much. Please go away or stop posting so much.

Oh I must have told this story millions of times.

This was in the late 80s, when Coppock was bigtime right.

So I'm driving in Evanston, on Sheridan Road, middle of a hot as hell summer day.

So I pull up at the intersection, and something just doesnt look 'right' with the car besides me.

I look into the car, and motherfucker, it's fucking Chet Coppock, but........something STILL doesn't seem right.

Then I start examining the inside of the car, and I was like Holy Shit ('Holy Shit' [circa 1988]For you youngin's : WTF wasn't a term back then, Holy Shit was the term that was widely used).

Anyway, this mofo, had like 3 layers of makeup all over his face, AGAIN THIS IS A FUCKING HOT ASS DAY, was in a suit and tie, and had ALL THE INTERIOR LIGHTS OF THE CAR ON! Like he was going on the air and he needed his own lighting crew while driving. Did i mention that IT WAS A FUCKING HOT ASS DAY!

Talk about overblown ego. Guy driving down Sheridan was thinking he was on the air. ironic thing is I don't knwo why he had all the lights on in the car, since he was on the fucking radio and you'd never get to see him. Maybe he was trying to pick up chicks, who knows. But right there and then, there was no doubt in anyone's mind this guy was a real tool.
