It seems to me the Score's best interests would be to let go of this embarrassment sooner than later. The bad image and bad ratings are making a decision on whether to keep 'ol stupid around much easier.

Lets see- "we keep Mike and suffer lower ratings, make ourselves look foolish, and embarrass our sponsers"

or

"get rid of the F-U-C-K now and save a little face"

Do any of you think these management types will make the right decision?

Two things holding them back Belvy: 1. As much as it pains me to say it, but even with his low ratings and what not, Mike DOES bring in a hefty amount of advertising (I think anyway....) with the ass kissing and networking he's done throughout the years and 2. They'll have to eat the rest of his contract, which is in the millions...and we all know Paul and Mitch are huge pussies....

But god damn I hope you're right.

Not only will he last through this contract, he will be signed to another one. It will not be a million dollar deal but it will be over a quarter of a million each year.

in the same time slot though ??? If the rating continue to be what they are, I think the Score would put him back in that 10-2 slot.

It will just be another dumb move by management to re-up him. He's a hasbeen now and it will only get worse from here.

Mike is in the twilight of a mediocre career. I agree he will be re-upped at a significantly lower salary. He will have no other suitors.

To save face for all it will probably be called a new Million Dollar Deal but it will have many bridges for North to cross in order to get his cash - it will be based on ratings/performance - and we all know Mike will never meet those specifications!

The Score doesn't need to offer him incentives. It would be stupid. They'd be bidding against themselves because nobody else would offer that. I don't think he will get another deal. If he does he'll take whatever they offer. He'll have no choice.

No choice? The guy has plenty of FU money to walk away with. He will be late 50's by then end of the contract and I don't think he really likes the sports radio gig anyway.

When I said "no choice" i meant if he wanted to return to radio. Yes, I'm sure Pappy has invested his money wisely and at 55 he is probrally set for the Pappy twilight years. He could spend half the year at Pappy land and the other half in his home in Vegas. I'm sure his houses are paid for and the only real expense will be buying Bebe a new dress every month and making sure his dog gets all the medical treatment to keep him alive until he is 28 years old.

Mike's ego is so big that he can't stop doing the radio gig - he'll take the reduction if it's offered;

Don't rule out his buddy Spaceball - If Jeff could get him, he would - but I don't think North's ego would let him be second fiddle to McNeil

Plus he won't be offered a drive time shift again. Afternoon's are set with B&B. They won't let him do mornings anymore. So you get the less important midday or evening shifts. Even if you do good numbers there its not a big time radio shift. The ironic thing is that's where Pappy got his big contract. After getting medicore numbers in a midday slot. He's a lucky SOB to be able to fail in 2 prime time slots after signing a 5 year deal. Most guys have to prove themselves in these slots before they get big money.

That will be one of the great soap opears in Chicago Radio.

I think they will offer him somewhere around 500K to stay and he will go nuts.

He'll talk about it on the air and compare it to a player making less money than he did the year before. Yet, will forget to mention the part about that player probably having worse numbers than he did the year before.

or....

Gonna make a NEW POST

Hate him if you like but you cannot deny that he helped to make the SCORE out of that mid day slot.

I have no idea what the ratings were during the SCORE golden age, but North became a success fairly quickly. He would not have achieved success without numbers.

Not if they keep getting their asses handed to them by MJH. Plus Bernstein has long been rumored to have aspirations beyond mere sports talk. If Terry decides to retire or is not renewed, Bernstein may go, too--or be paired with North for your new afternoon drive team.

I can see it now, Bernstein carrying on with his verbose crap and North not understanding one word of it!!

I doubt that North and Bernsie would work, it would be like two separate talk shows going on. In the game of life, North is playing checkers while the rest of us are playing chess.

I disagree. I think he wont make it any timeslot much longer because the ratings dont justify him staying. If insults were part of a great rated show, then I would agree. CBS and their millions can afford to let this trainwreck go. Embarrasment is acceptable when you're a top dog in the market. He isnt even in the top half.

It wopuld be a huge statement to everyone.

PRODUCE OR "YOU'RE GONE!!!"

Again its seems as though most of you need a dose of reality. North isnt going anywhere. Hes the best that station has right now. B and B suck big time. Is Mully still on at 10?? Who does the evening show now?? This station is in bad shape because of all of the other hacks they have, not because of North. The 2nd best talent after North is Murph, and hes got a crappy time slot. North will stay in mornings, and Murph should have the 2-6 slot, with a partner, then you would have something.

You must be related to North or Murph because no one thinks they are the best two hosts on the score. Of course you could have an IQ below 20.

If North is the best the station has, then with his lousy ratings a format change would seem to be in order. If your best show sucks as bad as his does, then blow it up and make the change to Spanish now.

If you are getting beat in the ratings by, as your stations own commercials call it, a national show, then I think that would mean that you should seriously consider making some changes to the show. For example, stay on sports ??? I'm not a genius or anything, I'm just not interested in hearing "political" banter on a sports station....

What exactly does anybody see in CBS or its management team that gives you confidence about the company's ability to make sound decisions and cut its losses (ala writing off bad contracts like North's)? In the last 12 months, CBS has lost $ 7 billion on $14 billion in revenue. It takes real genius to lose 50 cents on every dollar of sales. I recognize EBITDA was $3.1 B and the loss was due to restructuring charges of $9 B. Still, all that restructuring has led to nearly zero confidence in the market. The stock is trading near its 52 week low. The EPS estimate for this year is $1.87, which equates to a pathetic forward PE of 15. There aren't too many people on Wall Street who have much nice to say about this management team's ability to execute. Gordon Gekko would call CBS a dog with fleas. The Score fits right in to this miserably-managed company.

CBS radio is run by morons who employ their moron realtives tro make big descions. Look at the way they handled Howard Sterns departure. They hired David Lee Roth for christ sakes and he only lasted 4 months. Yes, whoever replaces Howard was set-up to fail but DLR for Gods sake. They wouldn't let Howard say SIRIUS on the air because it was promotion, then they sue Howard for talking about Sirius to much, giving hin more promotion, then they hire O and A who are on satelite radio which is the ultimate cross promotion, and they gave us Rover, who's even worse then Mike. CBS didn't have to give Mike all that money, where was Mike gonna go, 1000, they didn't want him, WLS, they have enough right wing bozos, WGN, fuck no. CBS radio is run by morons, look at Jack FM, 104.3 got good ratings and now their making no money and getting bad ratings. They cutback on dj's like they have at 1043 so they can save money and then they shell out big sums of money to the likes of Pappy and DLR.
