It's great that a park is going to get restored for the kids, but what has he done to get a park named after him?

I thought this had to be a joke until I heard the, " yup yup, great job mike " from Fred and Anne.

I was hoping for some sports talk this morning and instead I got LOTS of politcal BS.

Senn High School decided to rename their softball field Mike North Field. Silly.

Not only that but when the kids ask about this great man that the ball field is named for will the teacher explain that this person called the radio station while driving drunk and called Chinese people China Men. Remarkable.

What an absolute joke! Let's name a softball field after someone who never graduated from the school - that moved away years ago, and has been an abject failure for the majority of his professional endeavors ( think all the tv shows, think the Score disasters, and think the commercial endorsements that came and went).

All this - just Mike North's donations to charity and politicking via his past as a 'ward guy" - money talks, and he know it.

Here's the positive spin: he's geting his name permanately everywhere he can before his time is up. He knows its up, and he's just collecting whatever he can before he can collect no more!

Take a ride 90 miles southeast to a town named South Bend. There is a little school in that city named Notre Dame. Walk around the campus and you may notice the name De Bartolo displayed prominently on many buildings. I don't know if he is an ND grad but I do know the family fortune was not built simply on steel (and the steel company itself has some history that would give one pause). You will see this type of situation reproduced at institutions throughout the country. Anyone have a problem with it.

The guy is donating a good chunk of money to a good cause. Do you think there was another Senn graduate that was going to step up to the plate. Cut him a break.

The park name is a joke. Whats wrong with "Senn Field"? What about a small sign that details the donation by Mike North on the backstop.

In a few years the students will say, "who the fuc-k is Mike north?"

I promise you we could go down to the school right now and a good portion of them would say the same thing about Senn. Just so I don't look like some academic curmudgeon, I don't know who he is off the top of my head either. Anyway, that is not really a good standard for naming a park.

The fact is, we have parks, streets and buildings in this city named after all sorts of convicted and unconvicted criminals.

That part of Rogers park has alot more to worry about then "Mike North Field", then again, I'm pretty sure the RP alderman is the one that started the foi gras ban.

When does Jesse Rogers get a park? Imagine what the inscription on the plaque would say?
