Dialing: North going down?
• Although Mike North still has 18 months to go on his contract as morning personality at sports/talk WSCR-AM (670), his station's management already is beginning to look past him -- and his underperforming ratings.
No one is supposed to know it, but Score execs are meeting with their CBS Radio bosses today to discuss plans to replace North at the end of his current five-year, $7.5 million deal.

At this point, nothing has been ruled out. One long-shot scenario would shift Steve Dahl from afternoons at CBS "Free FM" WCKG-FM (105.9) to mornings on the Score. Such a move would likely signal a format change at WCKG.

For his part, North has been telling listeners he's heard the rumors, but isn't sure what to make of them. "A lot of things can happen in a year and a half," he said.

Foretold here also:

http://score670.com/phpBB/viewtopic.php?t=9932

Coincidental that Mancow is mentioned in Feder's article today also:

"Mancow Muller began broadcasting his Chicago-based syndicated morning show this week from brand-new studios in a downtown loft at 162 N. Franklin.

"Mancow's Morning Madhouse" has been without a Chicago radio outlet since July."

I think Rob Feder is a lurker, or perhaps he's a certain board member.

listened in the middle of it: they might get someone cheaper but they wont get anyone better... dont forget about conspiracies and collusion (?)...they're paying imus, letterman, couric to lose...best morning show the score has ever had...wscr is making the suits the money, something about it being one of two stations they have that is doing well. They don't know the ramifications changin the morning show of that station...I'll go work somewhere else...seems to be mad about having a lame duck show, that they are trying to take away or undermine his negotiation skills. Also is hurting the WSCR sales people...then wouldn't name who but blamed someone for the morning show sucking for the first 6-8 months because he was forced to follow their format

Annie stroking him the whole time, also crying: woe anyone in the radio industry...waa waa waa. We've both lasted while a lot of people have come and go, waa waa waa

Probably more after the break but I need some sleep

Murph had a bit a couple weeks ago: What's the best four word phrase in sports (Pitchers and catchers report, etc.) I would like to nominate "Post Mike North era."

Lets hope the Steve Dahl stuff is false. Sometimes Im with a buddy of mine and he still listens to Dahl. That is some of the worst/most boring radio out there. I cant imagine him in the mornings when people are trying to wake up. Would be alot of people driving off the road as they fall alseep listening to that guy.

I wouldn't listen to Mancow. I don't know if Dahl would be the right fit.

Mike is right on some points. His is the best morning show the station has ever had (but that is very faint praise). It is my understanding he is a moneymaker for the station. Also the SCORE without North at this point in time will be a disaster.

Still, I would assume the agitation that appeared to be caused by Tummy was actually misplaced anger at management over this story.

1. Best morning show they have ever had. Ok, yea, better then The Bear and the Bull, Tom Shaer and Muph and Fred (thats close, though). Congratluations Mike, on beng the best of the worse.

2. He will go to work somewhere else, yes he will. enjoy the paycut and crappy time slot.

3. Said someone was to blame for his show being bad in the first 6-8 months because of a forced format. Ok, but if it was a success, would he have given praise, my guess he would have taken all the kudos while patting himself on the back the whole time.

4. Annie Crying. Be a fricken professional. Radio people come and go, I think she is a fake an dputting on act and cant wait to get the hell out of the good old boys club there.

Typical North, not his fault, he is being screwed and no one loves him, cry me a river dumbass.

Mike is really bothered by Feder's column.

This is really nothing more than management getting the negotiations started - in a rather underhanded fashion.

At least North knows where he stands with Paul Agase and the muckity muck higher ups at CBS.

If I recall correctly, the format was Mike's idea, or so he claimed when he moved to the time slot.

We are hearing his dark side this morning, Mr. Chicago doesnt like to be treated this, he expects to be treated better then this or at at least better then everyone else. I personally will enjoy the demise of this gutter rat.

It was is idea. I think he is saying that that the suits only wanted him to talk about Politics/current events for a short period of time and sports the rest of the time. Call me crazy, but it is a sports station, so I dont really want to hear his weird views on other issues then sports.

I knew last week when North went after the three board members that something else was troubling him.

It's all coming full circle now.

I heard Dahl and Meier in their one day reunion and it was really good for that one day. However, I don't know if they could sustain it anymore. I was a huge S&G fan 20 years ago but I don't think I'd want that on the Score in the morning.

Ah, but the strawberries! That's where I had them. They laughed at me and made jokes, but I proved beyond the shadow of a doubt, and with geometric logic, that a duplicate key to the wardroom icebox did exist! And I'd have produced that key if they hadn't pulled Caine out of action! I-I-I know now they were only trying to protect some fellow officer and!......(realizes he has been ranting, babbling)

Naturally, I can only cover these things from memory if I've left anything out, why, just ask me specific questions and I'll be glad to answer them...one-by-one...

Doc, if you have been with him for that long you will remember the trainwreck when he was on the early days of MVP. I hear him discuss sports with Thayer, Joniak or Dore and I immediately turn off the station. I don't think it would be a good career move for him.

Again, the solution to the problem does not have to be as revolutionairy.

Yeah GD, I remember the 'MVP stuff and that is why I don't think I'd want to revisit that again.

I could handle Dahl doing a little sports on an entertainment show but not the other way around.

Classic CBS radio. "Dahl failed doing morning sports before, let's do it again". Dull is the worst. He only has people on that are paid by the teams, so nothing negative is ever said. Just listen to him lick Ed Farmers balls. Hey, you know Dahl was responsible for Disco Demolition, yeah, he never talks about that. i would love if fatty went to SCR, BB would have a field day. Plus if fatty leaves CKG they will flip formats meaning O and A wont have a home in Chicago, and CBS wont let that happen. My guess is that Paruch ends up in their with someone else, Mancow is going to WLS when Don and Roma are done.
