Frankly, Its a miracle they lasted as long as they did. The goal now should be to deal as many of the veterans as possible.

I'm starting to think that CL Puckhead and RPB are the same person, despite the fact that I have met both of them....but never at the same time. :P

No need to toe tag them. The Cubs will make the playoffs. You heard it here first.

I could have sworn one of the afternoon guys picked Z to win 18. I even think it was Jurko and not Harry.

Was it really necessary to include the words "2010 season" in the title of this thread?

Oh no! it all seems so, so, so HOPELESS! What a horrible season! I thought Zambrano was going to win the Cy Young Award! This is so unexpected and horrifying! And we have to wait an extra day for game 2!

Panic! Panic!! Panic!!!

I watched Chicago Tribune Live and Gerge Offman said he had Zambrano winning 17 or 18 games. Kaplan was torching the Cubs & Big Z. Rightfully so.

There were a lot of guys here who wanted to give him more than $100 million dollars guaranteed. For what you get with Z, that seems like too risky of an investment, making him over-rated, imo.

The fuck? Behind Soriano's deal (which is historically bad), Z's is the worst deal on the team by far.

I completely disagree.

Soriano will be under contract when he is 39 years old, and is injury prone, and for the most part bad.

Although Zambrano has been extremely disappointing since signing the big extension, he has kept himself from the DL for the most part. The guy is a horse who will eat innings, as long as he keeps his head in check. I would take Zambrano over Soriano every day of the week.

Wrong.
Z had a bad day to be sure. I also think he's going to have plenty of good days to follow.
I actually liked what I saw from him yesterday, after a fashion. He did not go all cra-Z at all. He knew he blew it. he handled it. No broken catchers' nose. No busted gatoraide cooler. No flip outs and ball tossings into the outfield, no rolling of the eyes when Lou hooked him.
Besides, Z's not over paid for what his number should bear out to be over the course of the year.

That's quite interesting. You boldly say that Frank is "Wrong" and follow it up with:

"I think he's going to have plenty of good days"

"Should bear out"

. . . and pointing out that he stayed away from acting unprofessionally.

It doesn't get much weaker than telling someone in a single word that they are "wrong" and then following it up with that crap. Lame.

So he gets credit for behaving? He's supposed to.

He's also been on the DL before. Not quite as much as Soriano, but he's been there. He's also been suspended a hellava lot more than Soriano. All of 9 wins last year.

My "the fuck?" remark was in response to ExMediaJ saying that a lot of people here wanted to give Z more than $100mil, and I don't recall seeing that here.

I wouldn't want either of them.

I would agree with you there, but if it was a "Gun to your head" moment, and you had to choose one of those contracts, which one would you take?

There is no way I would consider picking up Soriano's deal, even if you could shave a few million per year off the deal.

Zambrano's numbers are better than Buehrle

And while Buerhle has his annual 10 start winless streak, Zambrano usually has at least one stretch where he'll give up 5 runs in 10 starts.

Z is overpaid, but if you break it down, most starting pitchers would appear that way

Congratulations to NSJ and Frank for both completely missing the point. Mostly NSJ though.

Again. He had a bad day. A BAD DAY. Did your guy become over rated when he followed a perfect game with 7 or 8 straight losses?

The reason I point out his behavior is that I firmly believe that his bad behavior specifically contributed to him not being the pitcher he CAN be. His lack out outbursts leads me to believe that he might be getting over that hump (naturally we'll have to say the proof is in the pudding, I get that), and that will lead to a pretty good season. He's not over paid when you look at what it is he does.

It's probably a bad sign when your supposed best pitcher gets knocked out of the game in less than 2 innings and you say "Well at least he didn't destroy a cooler or fight another player or the manager".

I know that baseball is the most individual of the team sports but that can't be a positive thing to have in the clubhouse.
