Sorry to hear that. Sucks losing a pet from your childhood.

Sorry about the impending doom.

Let the record show that just about every fiber in my being wants to make fun of you for putting a facebook link here, but I'll write it off as part of your grieving process and instead make a mental note to just slap you in the head next time I see you but also hope that I forget about it since it will probably not be any time soon given my current hermitage.

Meow.

Sorry about Muffin, IMU. :(

I never thought I'd cry over a pet, but I did get attached to one of our cats. A few years ago as we lost our cat Prince. He was also mean to everyone else except for us...kind of a domesticated alley cat. He clawed up my dad's knee one time pretty bad, but never even a hiss at us.

Two weeks after we bought a house,we adopted our dog from Kay's Animal Shelter in Arlington Heights for 37 dollars. She was with us for 19.5 years. It was terrible putting her to sleep. I made the mistake of having my wife watch in the Vet's office. She was visibly shaken. I have had three dogs I put to sleep,(kept my wife out of the room for the next 2) not a good time. They become part of the family.

Sorry for your loss.

Have had to put both a dog and a cat to sleep after they each became old and infirm. Each time I left it up to the wife and kids if they wanted to be in the room or not. Son #1 opted in while the wife and son #2 sat it out.

Another cat, a very cool one which I got at the Champaign County Humane Society while in college, lasted over 18 years. He had a heart attack or something one morning and just kind of tipped over. I rushed him to the vet but they pronounced him DOA.

And yes, they do become part of our lives and are missed. Their deaths, however, gave our kids the opportunity to start learning how to deal with mortality.

My condolences.

Zach, our cat is 21 years old, achy, and has alzheimers. But she is not crying, if she does we will put her down. She still eats, sleeps, and dispenses, if you know what I mean. I feel ya bro.

My seven year old beagle named Bear had kidney failure and was put to sleep last October. Those who do not have pets or do not care are missing great joy in their lives. Bear was the first one I have ever had to have needed euthenasia. It sucks monkey balls. But if you put them out before the pain and suffering gets horrible for them you have done your friend a kindness. I never thought I could watch my beloved pet die but I am glad I was there to speak to him and pet him as he passed. It is very quick and looked painless and the whole process took maybe 45 seconds.(It seems like 45 minutes when you go through it.) We had him creamated and he is still with us in a different form. Just a bit smaller and on the shelf still watching over us. I feel your pain IMU.

Grew up in circumstances where the line between "pets or meat?" was blurrier than Harry Teinowitz' vision after a day at the track.

My gf, however, has always been a petophile or whatever (when Hurricane Katrina hit New Orleans, she packed up and drove down there on her own dime to spend a month or so in New Orleans rescuing Pit Bulls)..

So when we walked out the back door one night to go see a Peter Murphy concert, and a stray cat walked up and meowed its fool head off at us for some sustenance, we quickly forgot about the Dark Lord of Goth and I somehow ended up with a cat. And then another. And then when they'd pass, another and another. Never more than 2, but never less than that for very long.

And in addition to a pair of living/breathing/eating/shitting/pissing felines, a bookshelf containing a few of those coffee can urns they return to you after you have to give them a final back scratch.

TIP: when you take your pet in to have it put to sleep, ask the vet to first give the pet some sort of non-lethal sedative, and then spend some time alone with the happily sedated loved one before they put them to sleep.

Oh, and let them have chocolate that last day. They'll eat the shite out of it and they're going to die anyhow, so no worries there. chocolate ice cream's a good choice. ghirardelli's ice cream would be pimp.

I concur entirely with what Scooter says; good show.

As an added 'bonus', I found it very odd, perhaps funny, that they sent the 'creamains' in the US Mail, and there was no effort to conceal where it was from nor what it was. Also, they made a little clay pawprint to put next to the nice tin that looks like somebody bought some super high-end cocoa from Switzerland or something.

But, yeah .... I happened to be completely steadfast in that I wasn't going to leave when they put Gus down, my ma wasn't into the idea so much but did stay and was thankful, albeit tearful, that she did. So unless you really are just physically sickened by the idea, give sticking around to the bitter end a tumble or two in the ol' coconut.

Its a terrible shame, IMU. I wish you the best, but just realize that as hard as it is you ARE doing the right thing for your 4 legged friend.

I'm Messed Up 17: I am very sorry to read of this. I just did this horrible task last week when we took our sixteen (16) year old dog in. I sobbed like a very small child, and I still feel sick in my heart.

Condolences.

for u also

Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.

When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge.
There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together.
There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.

All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor; those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by.
The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.

They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent; His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.

You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.

Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....

When I come home from work,I get a bland "hey" from the 3 adults in my house. My Jack Russell comes at me like I've been gone a year. Jumping up & down, nipping at my hand, kissing me. My Corgi is not as excitable but still greets me with joy. No other animal (or creature,if you want to include humans) on earth beats a dog!

Please stop posting about this cat. It is getting in the way of me getting to more important topics on this message board that only affects me.
