That's a solid list. Probably 4 of the most famous of all time. If you're going creativity, you could swap out people on there - John Mohammed and Lee Malvo (equal representation) or Harold Shipman for the numbers alone.

Mike Matheny, too.

He's out for the same reason that Jack the Ripper is out. This is Merica. If you didn't kill em in America, you don't get your face on the rock.

Any serial killer Mt. Rushmore that doesn't have John Wayne Gacey featured prominently would be the same as having a basketball MT. Rushmore without Michael Jordan.

He was easily the greatest organized serial killer in modern American history. Guy killed 33-34 victims and the part that makes him the undisputed GOAT is that he NEVER had to use force to overcome a single victim. He did it all with cunning manipulation such as convincing kids to play the "handcuff game" with him.

Bundy is sexier cause he was good looking professional and he went after good looking co-eds, but he was a mess compared to Gacey. Bundy kept getting caught for one (definitely gets props for breaking out) and he wasn't an organized serial killer. He fit in the disorganized category which is a legit category, but doesn't get you the same level of serial killer cred that the killers in the organized category get.

Yes. He was a good-looking smooth talker who embodied the word "psychopath."

A good serial killer has to be charming and handsome... which makes me feel better about the chances that no one on this board is a serial killer.

yea Bundy had his organized moments where he relied on manipulation to get his victims, but he also had plenty of disorganized fits of rage such as the famous killing at he sorority house at Florida State where he went in, grabbed a log, and beat several sleeping co-eds to death.

Overall, Bundy falls in the disorganized category more than the organized.

Bundy is a mixed killer according to the definition.
They think he had way more than he has official credit for ,same with Gacy. He had literally dozens of D.L/I.D. cards for all over the country. Bundy held back because of his wanting to keep law enforcement strung out to keep himself alive.
You also need to put Gary Ridgeway up there, there is no way to know exactly how many he killed.
BTK,aka Raeder is famous but just for taunting.

About ten years ago, a guy (who was about 18 when the Manson murders occurred) I taught with leaned over to me while we were eating lunch and said, seemingly out of the blue, "Susan Atkins sure has aged well."

I just kind of nodded.

For equal representation, Wayne Williams works better, unless you believe the conspiracy theories

I never knew that Steve McQueen was to be at Sharon Tate's fateful dinner party and only missed it because he's ran into an old flame

I was watching a little bit of that show on Elizabeth Smart. That freak that kidnapped her got invited to a party by a guy who was working at a grocery store they went into. So he took Elizabeth and his wife and went to this crazy punk rock party. Elizabeth was this sheltered 14 year old Mormon kid. She was asked why she didn't tell someone at the party who she was. She said she was more afraid of the people at the party than she was of her captors.

I see some lighthearted comments here about Manson, but how many people here have actually watched him in interviews?

The first time I heard about him was in high school, where a social studies class was showing his interview with Geraldo, around '87 or '88. I remember it was quite a sensation in the school.

What he was more than anything was an actor. The one minute he was somber and self-deprecating, but the next he was raging, like the Scorpio sign he was (Nov. birthday). He had a way with physical gestures that was mezmerizing. This all made for a charismatic person. I don't know if you could call him a genius. He spoke often in metaphors and allegories. Sometimes I thought he was just making stuff up, but he was also serious. He had no talent for music, though.

They put him away for life, when Presidents have done much worse sending people to their deaths for false reasons. There's no way he could have received justice. I agree with him that how we think about him is a media creation, and does not reflect who he truly was. For not having a mother or father to depend on, he was a tragic figure.

One thing then never did to Charlie, despite all his years in prison, was break his will.

I see that his son and some chick he married while in prison are fighting over his estate. $400K or so at stake. Not small potatoes for a guy who spent decades in prison.
