Feder confirmed this is the last day of regular Loop programming. The Spanish Inquisition wasn't this ruthless.

The Loop was done for when Emmis stopped operating it locally and just had a program director in St. Louis run it on the side, i.e. more or less automated. That was about eight or nine years ago, must have been, since Emmis got out of the market in 2011.

Even when I listened to it, it was never the Chicagoest station that ever Chicagoed, but there still appeared to be some thought put into programming and not just a jukebox of the same twenty songs over and over. "Everything wrong with radio" is exactly right, right down to the very end of being sold to a shitty company that will just pick up a satellite feed.

Between the Loop and Q101, the wrong station got killed in the summer of '11 (but to be fair, Q101 was arguably in worse condition then than the Loop is now).

Yeah, both were run poorly, but that 2-3 day farewell that Q101 got was some of the best radio I've ever got to hear. The jocks got to talk and play what they wanted (and still adhere to the format), and it just worked great. It's what radio should be, but will never be again. The Loop deserved a similar exit.

While we had hoped to be the highest bidder for the station, we are taking the sale of the Loop as an opportunity to ensure we have the right people in the right jobs and are keeping as many employees as possible. In finalizing this sale, we can now focus on the future stability of the Chicago cluster and necessary growth to remain competitive. We continue to be in active discussions with Merlin regarding an acquisition of WKQX-FM. The sale of the Loop has no impact on our desire to bring WKQX-FM formally into the Cumulus family at the right price.

We wish each and every one of those affected by the sale nothing but the best as we all move forward. I will do my best to continue to provide you all with as much information as possible as we finalize the transfer of WLUP-FM to EMF, and I am available should you have any questions during this period.
