I don't "care so much." I'm just pointing out the separation that has occurred between the fan and the player in my lifetime. I don't really have an issue with the game being cancelled after a player's death if that was all it was. But it's just an example of the way the entire game is now built around the concerns, conveniences, and feelings of the players with precious little regard for the fans.

That's cool to stick up for the fan, but you've kinda muddied up this thread with a concern seemingly only you have on this board. Fans are never going to rise up and demand fair attention when the entertainment value is still very high for all 4 major sports in this country.

I feel bad for this kid and his family. I think he leaves a pregnant girlfriend behind. Just awful.

But the cancellation of the game is just another example of the game being more about the comfort of the players than any regard for the paying customers. The players are quick to spout platitudes when the tired cliche' supports their interests, like, "it's just business." But when it goes the other way, fuck the fan. What about, "the show must go on?" There's probably some guy out there who planned his whole month around taking his kid to that game. Now that child can't smell the grass and that helps Jose' Fernandez how?

The reason why I can't stand Joe Girardi is because he urged the players to go on strike (when he played for the Cubs) because of this (general) reason--the comfort of the players, their wish to make the game all about their needs. Pampered fucks.

I have to point out that the Sox let me out of tickets after my brother died last year. I called them and asked them if they could give them away, they asked why, they said yes. An hour later they called me back, refunded the money, and gave me four free tickets (Section 161) to another game. I guess the Sox feel they have to do that, but they didn't have to do it.

I've always been pro-player. I don't root for billionaire owners. But the player has to understand that the relationship between him and the fan is altered when he makes more in a day than the average fan earns in a year. And I don't begrudge the player his money. Better in his pocket than Reinsdorf's. But it doesn't stop there. Remodeling of the clubhouse takes precedence over amenities for fans. Like I'm supposed to care if Kris Bryant has a bigger locker?
