I agree with your comments, but I'd still argue that the 1 year in college rule is good both for the NBA and the NCAA...and usually for the player as well (from a basketball, social and maturity standpoint). :D

I agree 100%. Im sick of the Kwame Brown's. I think the 1 year rule makes the Draft much deeper, therefore much more exciting when the time comes. I think it obviously leads to better scouting and more informed draft picks. I think the 1 year helped Carmelo a shitload, I wonder if he would be nearly as good as he is without that leadership/championship experience. I like the fact that I can get a look at Beasley, Love, Rose, Gordon, Mayo, etc. before the draft, instead of trying to figure out if drafting a 7'3'' Russian guy named Malkdgsobvuis Anmvhrichgsicvgedish would be a good idea or not.

I get your point, but along North's original point, drafting a player who played 4 years in college can be just as risky as taking a high school kid

I agree. Shane Battier should never have been in the top 5. Same with Mike Dunleavy(Actually not sure if he played 4 years or not, but hes in the same vein as Battier anyway)

Side note: In my opinion Tim Duncan is the best player of the post MJ era to date, and he stayed a full four years. I think it just depends on the individual. Its idiotic to say universally that if you stay in college for 4 years you will be better off for it, some are some arent. I personally think if Lebron had to go to college 4 years, it couldnt easily hindered his growth as a player. I imagine he wouldnt have had the freedom to do what he could in the NBA, starting that opening night against Sacramento.

Well, you could just as easily listed other high selections out of Duke

Right, that essentially proves the point. Sure, you can make a valid argument that Duncan is the best post-MJ player, but you could also make a case for Kobe or LeBron, both high school players

Theres no question in my mind you'll be able to make a great case for Lebron a decade from now, but right now his NBA credentials are dwarfed by that of Kobe and Duncan. He's well on his way, but I would need to see multiple championships and at least an MVP award to put him up there. By the way... is Kobe the best player in the history of any sport to never win an MVP? He's gotta at least be in the team photo.

B & B just played the drop where North said he didn't know if he didn't wanted Deron or LeBron. Good job Jason!

Yeah, I heard that too...pretty funny. Actually they seem to have been taking more & more thinly veiled shots at North lately. They frequently make reference to Luol Deng being a top 5 player (as Pappy stated before the season) or their comments regarding Bobby Knight fans having been abused as children.

By the way spmack...good to hear you're still listening to the best show on radio - B & B.

Mike North should stick to the two things he does the best - boiling a hot dog and stinking up a shoe.

Nobody fills the February "dead" zone with entertaining non-sports BS like Dan and Terry.

Today, Mike & Fred weren't sure what team Mike Miller was on. Fred thought it was the Magic

Off topic here, but Pappy also said that Joe Montana was just a system quarterback.

According to Mike this morning, whitey's 'claim to fame' is their free throw and 3 point shooting. The black man has everything else.

Apparently Mike never saw Chris Dudley play

This morning during the opening minutes I heard Rock (sitting in for Fred) read all the NBA scores from last night

I think that's the first time I've ever heard that happen on the MNMS. Usually you just get the Bulls score or if Pappy and Fred attended the game in Phoenix, a full breakdown of the game

So does that mean the update guys have some leeway in what they actually include in their updates?

Mike also claimed to have watched the Pacers-Hornets game last night which I'm highly suspicious of

Does Mike still think Adam Morrison is the 2nd coming of Larry Bird? Maybe this is a question for the "Mr. Racial" thread.

That comment is actually pretty accurate. Montana was a great QB who excelled in the West Coast offense with his quick thinking and accuracy in the short passing game that the system is based upon.

He did not have the world's strongest arm and would not for instance been a great fit for the Raiders offensive scheme.

Ever heard of guy named Jerry Rice?
He wasn't a "deep threat".
That's like saying that Roger Staubach was a system quarterback because the team ran out of the shotgun during his career.

I dont think the comment is accurate at all. Colt Brennan is referred to as a system QB. The term implies that the QB wouldnt succeed in any offense, just a specific one. I think Joe woulda been fine on any team in any offense.

I was reading a discussion about the term "system QB" a while back, and the jist of it was that "system QB" in college is a damning statement since scouts are looking for potential, while "system QB" in the NFL isn't really because all you're looking for is results. I don't think there's any question that Joe benefitted from the establishment of the West Coast offense. But he probably would have been pretty good no matter what.

But that offense was "tweaked" when Rice entered the fold.

Yeah, I have. He is the guy who led the league in YAC for years after turning many a short slant route into a long touchdown.

Mike often makes mention of watching some random NBA game, and I usually think that it's refreshing to hear a local host ackowledge that the NBA does exist......then, he offers up his thoughts, and I flip the station because often, too often, they don't make sense.
