Basically, it's performative nihilism, overemoting about a wide array of topics like popping pills, getting your dick sucked, depression, etc.
It's not even hip hop, my 11 year old daughter could come up with more creative trap beats and samples, the lyrics are banal and repetitive, the 'singing' is terrible, blah blah blah....I wasn't exactly an impressionable kid when the whole 'grunge' thing exploded in the early 90's, I was almost out of high school and in my own band so to me, it was just rock music, and a middle finger to the Poison, Bon Jovi, Def Leppards of the world. I didn't self-identify with Cobain or Vedder, I just liked their bands. But this new late 2010s shit is literally lifestyle music for kids who are only living for today, fucking and getting fucked up on opiates or whatever. This douche just turned 21 very recently, and you'd think Kendrick just died based on the way he's being eulogized in the blogosphere. He really didn't have much of a body of work to rate, (what I have heard is utter shit)....he was basically just a poster boy for self fulfilling prophecy. What do I know? Sad when a little kid ODs, but in this guys case, it's hardly surprising. News at 11.
