this is pretty incredible. Ford is not going to sell a 4 door car in North America starting next year.

Ford hasn't made a cool car since 1968.

It's called a Ka because they can't fit a third letter onto the car body.

Shame on Ford for focusing on cars that people want to buy.

Japanese automakers (who have always done better with sedans) are feeling the pinch in their American divisions as people gravitate towards SUV's

https://www.wsj.com/articles/japans-sed ... 1525265207

As the article states, the rise in fuel prices won't have the same impact it did in 2008 as today's crossover SUV's are nearly as efficient as the sedans.

When I was buying my last non truck vehicle I basically had to go SUV as most cars I looked at were not going to fit three car seats across back seat. I was basically left with very expensive sedans or Going to an SUV. Even with two car seats it was tight. Maybe I was too used to the big 1 ton or half ton trucks but man, that third kid complicated things.

Three car seats?

Take a break once in a while, Squirrel.

Three kids. It was a very short period of time that we had three car seats and I guess one was officially a booster seat. Back in my day of course the car seat was lay on the damn floor in the back of the station wagon.

A smaller company could die from that.

They're still going to produce mustangs

But they made too shitty of cars. Nobody wants them. It was bad enough that it was tarnishing the brand. Good riddance imo.

So, KTP has gone Navigator/Expedition only, Claycomo has been down and Dearborn went into shutdown 2nd shift yesterday. BMW-Spartanburg is having it's own "unplanned non production days" (Germans don't like the term shutdown). Ohio Assembly is running but probably not much longer.

So yea, shits a little fucked up.

Especially when the F-150 is the best selling vehicle in most states.

Ford still hasn't given a timeline for how long the shutdown will last, but they have said "several days" Info like that is about as useful as a hockey coach's injury report

I agree Ford sedans suck, but in general we are seeing sedan sales fall as people realize it isn't that much more. The last time we went car shopping, we didn't even consider a sedan. In the long run this trend is good for US automakers as the US automakers have had the better SUV line-ups while the Japanese and European automakers usually had the better sedans.
