Quote:
In early November, we reported some growing conjecture and internal enthusiasm that ESPN was gearing up to bring back daily baseball studio programming. Fast forward to today, and Awful Announcing has learned that ESPN has turned away from this possibility and is no longer considering such a move as the 2019 season draws closer. The iconic show will still air as it did in 2018 as a Sunday night countdown leading up to Sunday Night Baseball.

ESPN president Jimmy Pitaro, a known baseball fan, had internally conveyed an interest in bringing back the popular show beyond Sunday nights, in addition to hunting more Postseason rights for ESPN down the road. While the latter is still possible, ESPN has decided to walk away from the potential daily relaunch of baseball studio programming because of two developments:

Because it interferes with too much NBA and playoff talk?

Sucks but things change. You can see Baseball Tonight every night on MLB Network. And what was NBA Coast to Coast on NBA TV.

Baseball Tonight was fantastic for a couple decades. MLB took it away. I love MLB network now.

If I still subscribed to ESPN, this would matter much more to me as I loved Baseball Tonight at its peak.

Back when I was a heavy fantasy baseball guy, Baseball Tonight was must-see every night.

Is there someplace I can watch extended highlights? It would be great if I could watch them in the morning without knowing who won. I do with hockey.

MLB Network, bro.

Best channel on tv.

MLB Network has made ESPN's Baseball Tonight completely unnecessary, as others mentioned. MLB Network has the top talent in terms of hosts and analysts. ESPN understands they cannot compete.

Further enforces the dying interest of baseball for younger generations.

Die-hards have gravitated and continue to flow to MLB Network but then you're just consolidating your fanbase into an obscure channel.

I think it was the last show I watched on ESPN consistently but it has been years (probably since shortly after my daughter was born) since I made a point of it. MLB’s is a good background show for when I’m working on the Farm’s version of the Penske file.
